And here's another one...

BILL NUMBER: A1105

TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the penal law, in relation to
prohibiting the attendance of children at gun shows or stores

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To prohibit the attendance of
children under eighteen years of age at gun shows or stores by
classifying such attendance as unlawfully dealing with a child.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : This bill amends section 260.21 of
the penal law, as added by chapter 362 of the laws of 1992, as amended
by chapter 478 of the laws of 1996.

JUSTIFICATION : Today, children are the products of a violent
society which condones and frequently advocates violent behavior by
way of the medium of television and through real life experiences. The
need for legislation that will put an end to some of the violence
children view first-hand is extremely crucial. Children are
impressionable and often times lack the ability to distinguish acting
from real life situations. Albert Bandura, one of the first social
scientists to study aggression in children noted that children tend to
emulate acts of aggression they view on television and/or in real
life. Regulating what a child is able to see is only a stepping stone
in the right direction.

We currently prohibit children from voting, admittance into a bar
where they are able to obtain an alcoholic beverage and put
restrictions on their drivers` licenses if they have not reached the
legal age to participate in such activities. Yet to allow children
under the age of eighteen admittance to a gun show and in gun stores
is sending out the wrong message to children and parents alike.

This bill will simply prohibit children under the age of eighteen from
attending gun shows and entering gun stores.

PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY :

A.5855 (2003-04): referred to codes
A.5501 (2001-02): referred to codes
A.9386 (1999-00): referred to codes

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : None

EFFECTIVE DATE : This act shall take effect on the first of November
next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.

I can understand requiring a responsible adult over the age of 21 to be with little Billy and little Suzie, but gimme a break... Felony Unlawful Dealing With A Child????

Un-freakin' believable. Could this bill possibly get enough support in the state assembly?

I've been taking my girls to gunshops and gunshows since before they could walk; they're not big fans of gun stores now, but both still love gunshows ...

What a bunch of bliss ninny bull crap!

My kid loves gun shows.

Plenty of cool guns and toys for him to look at.

Even if I don't like my local show it's worth taking the kids and watch them
enjoy it.

You know, I looked up several bills regarding firearms and found that in many of them, peace/police officers were exempted from a lot of things. i.e. If your gun gets stolen and then used in a crime, you go down unless you're an LEO.

Unreal.

Incredible.:banghead: Given that gun shows are one of the least violent places I have seen, the unspoken assumption is that the sight of a gun is a violent act. Apparently the sight of actual violence (coverage of the war on TV) or the portrayal of violenece such as in movies, is not enough of a threat to the kiddies innocent minds?:scrutiny:

They want to ban children from playing violent video games and watching violent shows on TV?;) If they live in a bad Neighborhood will they ban them from playing outside so they dont see drug dealers and thugs?

OH wait they dont want them to see lawabiding citizens excersizing their right to keep and bear arms. Will they also ban them from shooting ranges until they are 18??????

I'd be willing to bet that the NY liberals would be thrilled with this legislation, but agast at the suggestion that a minor child's parents must be notified is she tries to obtain an abortion.

this bill died in the codes comittee in the last session 1/10/2005 it was referred to codes. Note its been brought up every two years.

Someone should send these nitwits an e-mail and invite them to go to a gun show so they have some idea what goes on at one.

It's the pitch ... and a swing ... it is OUTTA HERE as it sails over left field.

Now - back to the thread -

They say that a child seeing some firearms on tables and a bunch of overweight guys in cammo is dangerous for them, and societies future? More dangerous to society than airing a Cindy S. speech on tv?

***?

Leftists, not liberals. REAL "liberals" want to allow a lot of things, including the right to bear arms. Problem is that the label's been hijacked by leftist moonbats just like the "Conservative" label has been hijacked by church-over-state spend-like-drunk-sailors neosocialists.

Bills soon to follow:

Prohibiting minors from attending Boxing matches, Hockey games, all Martial Arts activities.

Think those would fly?

Don't forget football, wrestling, and midget tossing.

I can understand the rationale behind stopping unaccompanied children from attending a gun show . . . but prohibiting them from entering even when they're with a parent, as this appears to do?

Had to express myself without violating the "Art's Grammaw" rule . . .

Sad.....but funny.....Like visiting a gun store or gun show will effect the child any differently than living in a house with a bunch of firearms......I'm sure that will be the next direction they go into if something like this ever gets passed.

Why? Because they might buy some beef jerky or a beenie baby or a WWII army insignia or a canvas gun case? Or is it because so many FFLs want to lose their license by selling a firearm to a 17 year old?

Better keep them out of the malls and libraries, too.

Or you may get a couple of 12 year olds who want a chance to play with a real Deagle . . . sad to say, there are FAR too many kids today who aren't well behaved. It's a real legal nightmare to discipline them, too, if only to put a halt to their mischief, if they're alone and causing trouble.

(And as for jerky . . . considering the rancid smelly garbage I've been seeing - and smelling! - lately at the local shows, giving a kid food poisoning would also be frowned on by our legal system.)

The boy can buy as many condoms as he can carry out of the store but he can't even go look at a gun. :banghead: :barf:

Wonder if they will ban kids from wal mart, seeing as wal mart sells guns and all and is technicly in a sense a gun store. Or at least a few feet of counter space is, maybe they just cant enter the sporting goods area. Wonder if it includes large outlet style sporting goods stores the service hunting, fishing, etc.

Treat them the same as you would a doofus who is 21+ years old -- throw them out! Use the on-site security personnel, if necessary. No big deal.

Unsupervised 12 year olds can be a problem in a candy store, flea market, or children's clothing store. Has there ever really been a problem at gun shows?

It's nonsense like that... :cuss: This is why my children will kill, process, cook, and eat some other creature just as soon as they're physically able. I don't care if they hunt a deer, or slaughter a goat, they're going to do the killing themselves, get up to their elbows in blood and guts, butcher the meat, and cook it over a fire that they built. And they'll know just exactly how to do all of it from watching their dad do it.

'Course, I'll probably end up in some reeducation camp for making them do it, but at least my kids will know what it is to be human.
