Blue mountian is where I go. ....run by NYS. Hourly fees are really very high IMO, however. ...bring lots of money.

the hell with that... my back yard is where i go. What you shootin? (live in Red Hook area)btw

I live only 30 mins from Blue Mountain, and although yes, it's a place to shoot, it's not that great of a place, IMHO.
Only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
They don't allow offhand shooting of rifles, and enforce slow fire by making you only load one round at a time.
They take your driver's license number if you're shooting anything larger than a .22 rifle, and your pistol permit number if you're shooting handguns.
Unlike most ranges I've been to, the police you may find yourself shooting next to take an active interest in what you're shooting, but in a bad way - guys have been busted (arrested, not just told to go home for the day) for breaking AWB and mag capacity laws (State Laws).
There's a small private range on Ardsley Road in Scarsdale, of all places, but if you want to shoot there more than once you need to join ($125 annual fee), and you can't shoot muzzeloaders or rifles stronger than pistol caliber.

Come join my gun club in livingston, ny ... its only 70 yard range or so but you can shoot whatever you want, and there is a roof and a concrete slab...

Impartial, what is the name of the club? I've been going to Blue Mountain but I hate the 1 round rule, and it is quite expensive.

Does anyone know of the laws for shooting just in the woods in Putnam county?

Last I knew Marbletown sportsman club had openings. Very good group of guys and a nice range. I go up on week days and often have the range to myself. Look them up on line and send an email. The president is very helpful and is quick to answer questions. We have covered shooting stations but you are only going to get 100 yards max. Also have a 25 yard berm for handguns and rim fire.
