NY Senate Pick Is Pro-Gun

No, she is not pro-gun. We'll have to take a slightly closer look at her performance as a Congressman.

The real winners are the constituents of her Congressional District. The Leader of the NYS Assembly Minority will be going for her seat. He IS pro-gun.

What do you mean she is not pro-gun? I have seen no evidence to support that assertion.

Story in the paper this morning in which Gillibrand is quoted as praising McCarthy's efforts on gun control adding that she would support gun control as well.

So much for that. A Democrat may start out supporting 2A rights, but the party is dedicated to banning guns and the pressure from the leadership always wins out in the end.

Unfortunately, the Republicans are not much better.

Don't start the revolution without me.

Gillibrand says she will support gun control, but her record shows she is pro-gun.

Bush was the same way. He said he supported gun control, but his record was pro-gun.

Why is Gillibrand criticized when she does it, but Bush is praised as a political genius when he does it?

That's to shut the fools downstate up. It's playing the games of politics. Is she as good as a pro-gun Republican? Probably not in 90% of the cases, but in NY, it's hard to find a pro-gun anything, so you take what you can get.

I don't know whether these "hunting rights=2A" people are that dumb, or whether it's an appeasement strategy.

One can only trust that forthcoming court rulings will help put this pernicious "hunting and sporting" nonsense to rest once and for all.

A similar thread is active in the Activism arena, for what it's worth, and seem to be covering pretty much the same ground. They might be better combined as one?

I never praised Bush for being actively pro-2A. He was passively supportive of gun rights and that's a lot better than we would have gotten from Gore or Kerry but I never heaped praise on him or failed to criticize when needed. I was very angry when he said he would sign the AWB extension if Congress sent it to him. That was blatantly breaking his word and even if it was a political ploy it was one made at our expense.

There were a few people on that stage with her who make my skin crawl. The one that she really has to watch out for is senior U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer. Although he was up there clapping and smiling, I'm sure his thoughts were 180 degrees from his phony outward positive support. He would stab his own mother in the back to achieve his goal. He is not to be trusted.
I'm sure McCarthy will be crying on his sleeve. I am sorry that she lost her husband on that train and that her son was injured. Doesn't she realize that if law abiding citizens were allowed to conceal carry, Furgerson would not have been able to shoot 9 people on that train, and then maybe, just maybe, her husband would still be alive today? I know that someone would have stepped up to the plate and put an end to his massacre. Criminals will always be able to get guns, why punish the law abiding citizens by denying them the right to protect themselves. What in God's name is in the heads of people like McCarthy? What is it they don't understand?

It's kind of stomach-turning how McCarthy milks her own tragedy for political gain, when the outcome is so illogical.

Think about it. Even "we" (pro-gun rational thinkers) feel bad for her tragedy, and rightly so. If we aren't careful, we start to think "Maybe she's justified feeling the way she does, even if she's misguided...maybe she doesn't know any better..."

NO!

She is milking a personal tragedy for political gain at the expense of our freedoms.

Darn right on the skin-crawling count tpaw.

The rumor is that this is a Hillary pick. Kennedy backed Obama, Cuomo coddled Spitzer before his downfall and broke his alliance with the Clintons. Even Chucky Shumer tried to silence McCarthy by calling for support of Gillabrand.

I am just happy that we now have a Senator that will represent the rest of the state not just NYC. The real money in NY comes from LI and the counties like Westchester with their crazy high property taxes. These places do have a history of being fairly conservative. Carolyn McCarthy's support was high in the aftermath of the LI Rail Road shooting in which her husband was killed. This was a long time ago and the average 30-40 year old homeowner barely remembers. Also you would be hard pressed to find another issue in which she produced any results for her constituents. She comes across as shrill and would have a hard time running for anything outside of her Long Island district. she is basically seen as a one-trick pony and would serve herself well by remembered that. After all there is a reason that she was not on the Hillary replacement list at all.

Outside of NYC there is still quite a bit of gun ownership, shooting sports and hunting taking place. There are strong organizations who are experienced in dealing with the anti's. There is also more and more resentment towards NYC Democrats. Quite a few successful NYC Democrats that could not win a dog catcher election outside of the city.

In NYC as well. Just about everyone I know has some type of firearm in their home. NYC still has a great abundance of hunters and target shooters. Quite a bit of posted land Upstate is owned by people Downstate. Additionally, many shooting clubs have indoor ranges within the confines of NYC and it's five boroughs.

If you don't live in NY, just send us your money!

I am definitely considering sending a small donation to Gillibrand's campaign, even though I don't live anywhere near New York. This is a huge, huge slap in the face for the antis. When not even New York's senate seats are safe for the them, they know their cause is lost. Every time they see her, it must feel like a knife being plunged right into their guts and twisted around.
