Gov. Patterson of NY announced last night he was picking Kirsten Gillibrand for the US Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton.

Gillibrand, 42, is a US Rep. from upstate NY and has been endorsed by the NRA.

She's also a lot cuter than Hillary.

The news here in NY/NJ continually harps on about how she consorts with demons......errr has a positive NRA record.

Even though she also has a 100% rating from the ACLU as well.

Awesome....that's a nice win for RKBA, exchanging Hillary for her.

But let's keep the comments high road, shall we? She is attractive, but that has nothing to do with her qualifications for office. We're not doing ourselves any favors in the public's eye talking like that.

She seems to swing right on a few important issues, gun control being one of them.

We all need to send a thank you email to Gov Patterson for appointing an A rated candidate to the US Senate.

She's a Blue Dog Dem, excellent choice, better than many Republicans (In Name Only).

Hey, if she's pro RKBA, that's a huge step coming from NY.

Does that notably change the balance in our favor, or more "even things up"?

This is a good step for NY, I hope… I may be able to finally send a letter to one of my senators saying I approve of something they do.

i just did it for the first time too! well, i sent paterson a thank you email.

unfortunately she defends her pro-gun stance as being from a hunting family and wanting to protect hunters, so she's a bit of a fudd, but still about a thousand times better than anyone else who was being considered and a gigantic leap in the right direction for ny. huzzah.

You people do know that the NRA forms sent out or requested from politicians can be filled out to make the candidate appear to be gun friendly when in fact they are not don't you.

The NRA does not follow up to check if the info is correct.

One of the reasons I quit being an EVC was for this very problem. I knew of many anti gun politicians who got positive NRA ratings because of false forms .

Don't take a positive rating from the NRA as meaning anything. Their ILA branch is sadly lacking good leadership and organization.

The boneheads on some other forums seem to not like her just because she is a Democrat, but from what I see about her record, she looks pretty good coming from NY.

All things considered, I think shes the best we could have gotten from a state heavily leaning to the left.
There are a lot of people in the state that do hunt as a way to reduce their food budget.

Good news for RKBA. Its good to see some people on this site realize that not all dems are bad. The troubling thing is she has to survive a special election next year against Mario Cuomo's son. I pretty sure it will be hard for her to win against him.

Almost Excellent. Looks like she went the way of partial appeasement.

    From her Website:
Better than HC? I might have even voted for her.

notice the wiki article also says she has a 100% record on gun-rights votes in addition to the A rating. now, we're not talking about a large sample size, but if you want a source other than the NRA rating, please note that she co-sponsored the bill to ban gun registrations and trigger-lock laws in DC. link here.

frankly, i'll chalk this up as a win...and an unexpected one at that.

I thought this was very telling...

"U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, who wasn't among the 10 to 20 people Paterson said applied for the Senate appointment, immediately criticized the expected pick. McCarthy, whose husband was killed by a gunman on the Long Island Railroad, said Gillibrand's support of more conservative issues such as gun ownership rights was out of step with most New York Democrats."

T.S. for you, McCarthy. Out of step with most NY Dems is a GOOD thing for the rest of us...

Yeah, sometimes you can best tell how good a choice is by who gets their knickers in a twist over it. Knowing nothing about Gillebrand, the mere fact that McCarthy is fuming about it makes me giggle.
