NYC gun collector arrested

Odd story. Only antiques can be shipped directly to a buyer unless he has a FFL. Are these all antiques?

Well the pimps, drug dealers, and robbers can rest safe tonight that another dangerous gun owner has been removed from the city. I just cringe at the hours spent to chase down this man when people openly sell drugs on the streets. :banghead:

now his home will be targeted while he's in jail fighting for his rights---and will be targeted in the future because criminals will think he has guns there

criminals are pretty smart, the dumb ones are in jail. They know the cops confiscated his mini arsenal, so they will probably break into house to steal other items, like his TV and silverware:rolleyes:

Sernv99: "been there, done that, being a "landlord" is not as easy as it seems on paper. Dealing with problem renters, being self-reliant on yourself to do the repairs rather than contract it out, etc. Not everyone wants to deal with being a "landlord" aside from their regular M-F job."

Well, of COURSE you contract it out -- you don't live in that state anymore.

From what I saw on the pictures he had mostly antiques, so no FFL was necessary.
He had a few muzzleloading derringers, a few C&B revolvers, a bunch of antique cartridge revolvers - 1892 SAA, 1895 SAA, Colt and Remington pocket rimfires, like .32 and .38, a Southener Derringer in .41RF, a pepperbox, a s&W "safety hammerless" among others.
There were a couple of surplus military automatics probably in 32acp. Those are definitely not antiques, dodn't know how he got them without a transfer. Maybe fanily heirlooms?
And then there was the shotgun along with 2 rifles.

I'll post the pictures later.

"Stupid solution:

Don't live in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, California or any other loathesome craphole that expects you to be a victim of violent crime.

These places aren't North Korea. You CAN leave"

I am going to move to NJ from wonderful Colorado in two years when I am done with my degree. Why? A girl of course. Why doesn't she come here? Cause we already own a house there and she has 10 years towards her pension as a Firefighter. So, we should just up root and start from nothing cause I am going to have to go thru hell to get my guns there?

SpecialK: "So, we should just up root and start from nothing cause I am going to have to go thru hell to get my guns there?"

Yes.

Don't complain about gun laws if you accept living under them.

You want to know the funny thing? In MOST of the states of the Union (possibly even up state NY) this wouldn't have been a problem. I bet his lawyer is going to have fun on this case. The guy DID try to apply for a "permit / license" twice but was denied, effectively banning him from owning firearms. He seems to have owned these legally (in regards to federal law). Certainly didn't USE them illegally... Isn't that the purpose of the laws? To keep them out of the hands of criminals?

In the beginning laws have a noble purpose like that. After awhile the law is then used to arrest people for not dotting the "i" in the approved manner with regulation ink.

I dunno, maybe the NRA can take this to the Supreme Court and win.

Those commies will stop at nothing to lure unsuspecting victims into their society...baiting should be outlawed I say!!!

I don't get it.
Who was harmed by this "crime"? How can there be a crime without a victim? I know several people with large gun collections who never hurt anybody. How can a local law override the Second Amendment? Could they make collecting other Constitutionally protected items like Bibles or newspapers a crime?

Quit the Anti NY retoric, seriously If you dont like the laws here dont live here, simple. If you do live here OBEY the law, just as simple and FYI NYC and New York State are a whole different breed of gun laws, so mainly my advice is DONT live in NYC. This man's a moron, all he needed was to get his pistol permit and nothing he would have done would have been illegal. Well that gravity knife is illegal here to, but that wouldn't have triggered an investigation. The part I can't get over is HOW the hell did he get 77 handguns without a permit, unless he bought them all out of state in person in a state where only a backround check is required for a handgun purchase.

In NYS you must already have a pistol permit for an FFL to transfer ownership to you, how the hell did he aquire 77 handguns? Fake FFL credentials, shady FFL, lots of out of state purchases? Who knows but this guy is a moron, plain and simple.

Could they make collecting other Constitutionally protected items like Bibles or newspapers a crime?

Sure, all they have to do is say they are a fire hazard because you don't have them stored properly, and voila, you're a criminal. Do you have some Bibles and/or newspapers laying out in the open around the house that you want to tell us about??? Well, do ya?! :D

We don't know yet, but my hypothesis would be legal antiques and FTF buys. He applied for his permit and was denied. He should have moved.

Well, somebody needs to complain about it or nothing will ever get done. Then there's the breeding and it begins to spread to other places. Before ya know it, we'll be setting sail looking for a free world and I don't think there are any more discoveries to be made.

There's always the world in which the Obamanation lives.

Seriously, keep up global warming and we can migrate to Antarctica and Greenland. We'll rename it "Gunland."

Don't call this guy a moron. He tried to get a pistol permit and was turned down twice.
Also, what part of the word "antique" do you not understand?
By federal law any pre-1899 firearm does not require a transfer. So this guy was getting stuff for his collection legally. It is just NY defines an "antique" differently.
Here it is any pistol not firing fixed ammunition or a cartridge handgun made pre-1894 that fires obsolete ammo not made in the USA.
So this guy is clean federally. His muzzleloaders and the rimfires should be fine even by NY law. His SAAs and .38 S&Ws are no go because the ammo for them is still made.
And I would like to see anyone put 77 handguns on their NY license. There isn't enough space on that little card.
Don't defend NY, defend RKBA.

I'm sure someone is going to leave their job just to move to a state where gun ownership is better. mmmm, let me think about that....
I did, among other things. I got laid off a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't consider moving back to Apartheid Chicago under ANY circumstances, job or no job.

Yeah, I toughed out some lean years in Maine, rather than go back to Chicago or DC and a cushy six figure salary.

We don't know yet, but my hypothesis would be legal antiques and FTF buys. He applied for his permit and was denied. He should have moved.

My understanding of the law is that antiques are find to own without a permit, but once you aquire the power and ammo to actually make it shoot your in posession of a pistol, that needs a permit. If these were all antiques without power or ammo, I doubt we'd even be seeing this story, but if this guy even had one "new" semiautomatic handgun he bought FTF he was in violation of the law.

Dont know bout the Island but in NYC you need a permit for a rifle or a shotgun. :scrutiny: Yea I know . . . :barf: Thats one of the reasons I live OUTSIDE the city.

I am sad to see these firearms be distroyed, I'll never understand why they dont put them up at the police auction like confiscated drug dealers / drunks cars. Can't anyone think of the innocent firearms!!

LIVE there??? I've only ever VISITED once.

Don't like the laws. Don't like the people. Don't like much of anything there.
Apart from the arms and armor collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Korean delicacy restaurant where we ate, there's no reason to VISIT, nevermind LIVE there.

My best friend works for Microsoft on Long Island. He hates New York and can't wait for an opportunity to move to Redmond. He's got a safe full of handguns back in Delaware he knows he'll never be able to bring with him.

well Dean my comment is not meant for people who got laid off and thus have no job, it's for folks who still have a job and currently working.

For years, the NYPD policy has been that all guns are evil and all gun owners are criminals EXCEPT police and the crooks who bribe the police to get guns and permits.

That could be stopped, but then the cops would have to live on their salaries, a horrible thing to contemplate.

Jim
