I won a Remington Nylon 66 at a raffle. I had to wait 10 days to get in (I live in CA). I decided I don't have a need for it and want to trade it, but realized, it does NOT have a serial #. I looked up the gun info and it says pre 1967 nylon 66 didn't have serial numbers, so my question is, I'm getting ready to trade in for another rifle, does it need to go though a local FFL? The gun shop I got it from is so scared they make all guns they have including C&R do a 11 DAY wait! so I don't want to ask

there should be a letter code on the left side of the barrel. Those letters will indicate the month and year it was manufactured. Do a search on THR and you should find the list of codes.

According to this website, there were NO serial # on them pre 67, I have looked everywhere on the gun, down to pieces and no serial, if it's 68 and newer it has to have a SN. So yours is older then 67.

So, if mine is a '62, it shouldn't have a serial #? I may have the dates mixed up with another gun I have. I'll call Remington again tomorrow to double check.

Serial numbers started showing up on Nylon 66 in late 1967 due to the gun control act of of 1968. 1967 rifles had the number on the bottom of the barrel just behind the front sight. The S# was moved to the left side of the receiver cover in 1968.

There will be a two letter code stamp on the left side of the barrel just in front of the rear sight near the stock line. First letter is the month, second the year of manufacture.

If the rifle is a pre-67 and was sent back to Remington for service after 1968, they would have put a serial number on the cover and also added a service letter code near the date code, so you could have more than two date code letters.

If you tell me what the code letters are I can tell you the month and year it was made, or look it up yourself here...
