O/U Recommendations

I find that my pre-92 Ruger Red Label 12 gage doesn't shoot to point of aim with my top barrel
.

Ruger has had problems with their shotguns over the years.

This is one of the main issues with inexpensive O/U or SxS that many folks do not realize. Regulating barrels is a labor-intensive process. It takes time (and therefore cost) to get it right. There is a difference between the inexpensive guns and the higher cost ones - and this is one of the reasons.

Call Ruger - they will try to make it right

My RRL does have the short, factory, pre-'92 chokes. Thanks for your thoughts and for passing along your friend's experience. It gives me something to look for. I have sent my RRL back to the factory however. Maybe I'll know something more in a while.

chokes

John, the chokes in question are the "friction" not threaded chokes that are used exclusivelyon the RBLs. They are extremely thin. My other Ruger shotguns with the heavier threaded chokes have never been a problem.

I looked a long time at the Ruger RL but chose the Browning Cynergy instead. We (my shooting buddy got one also) got ours cheap because we wanted a shorter 28" barrel but you could shop around and probably find one for your $1400 limit.

I have put over 5000 rounds down mine and it is just starting to feel smooth. They build them quite "tight".

Not true. 30-32" barrels are exactly what you need for sporting clays. Longer barrels allow for a better swing. 32-34" barrels are perfect for trap. For skeet 26-28" do the best.

Also to dispel some BS. Porting is not any louder than non-ported barrels. Over 90 percent of all Browning sporting guns are ported. It does little to reduce muzzle flip, but doesn't hurt either.

I would go after a nice used Browning or Beretta. Best guns hands down for the money. Should be able to find a nice used one for a grand. Now the last gun I would consider is a Ruger Red Label. They cannot take the steady pounding of a real target grade gun. The auto safties are a pain in the ass and the overall construction is second rate. Not meant to insult Red Label guys, just talking from real time experience...

Thanks All for your input. I know a little more now. I still haven't heard back from Ruger. I'll post again when I do.
