Obama - wants to make "expired assault weapon ban permanent"

"From South Central L.A. to Newark, New Jersey, there's an epidemic of violence that's sickening the soul of this nation," the Illinois senator told the crowd.

Not surprised he mentions two bastions of proven, gun controlled utopias.

"That type of weapon belongs on a battlefield, not on the streets of Chicago."
Is there a difference between the to?
Maybe I want to hunt BG's that kick in my door at night. :cuss:

If you want to go hunt, go hunt. Nobody is trying to take your shotgun or rifle away," he said

Hey Obama...my AK-47 *is* my rifle...and you're trying to take it away.

But when you've got the gun lobbying saying that we can't use ballistics to trace back where guns came from ... then it is time for us to stand up to the gun lobby and say enough. It is time for a change in Washington."

Since when did the gun lobby outlaw the use of ballistics tracing? If he's talking about the Tiahrt Amendment then the quote above makes no sense (as I would expect). Oh wait...maybe he was tired and misquoted something *again*. :cuss:

Not exactly an encouraging sign, if you're a gun-owning Democrat: The only viable alternative to Hillary is no less repulsive than Hillary...

Worse yet, regardless of which candidate prevails in the Dem primaries, the other one will end up in the VP slot!

Not surprising. I thought it was pretty well established that Obama is an anti. My vote's going to Romney or Thompson.

I'm just glad to see Obama coming down on A side of an issue: It makes him easier to push aside. The fact he's coming down on the wrong side for most Americans is simply a bonus. The problem with the liberal constituant is that they don't understand why they want to take our guns away. No guns=No accountability to the people. Obama might not even know that himself. He's simply heard that he's supposed to be Anti and accepts it. The real people to worry about are the ones that are determined to see their way of government supplant our own Constitution.

LOL FYI he is a muslim. He would never carry the south, midwest, northwest, btw shame on you for still having faith in the Democrats...Obama is not even well liked by African americans I dont see much potentail for him any way.

"A couple weeks ago, cops found an AK-47 near a West Side school," he said. "That type of weapon belongs on a battlefield, not on the streets of Chicago."

Note that Chicago has an assault weapons ban already...

Obama says
...if you go down to Downstate Illinois, that's an important part of the culture there and people use guns responsibly in those situations.
He clearly indicates the problem, whatever it may be, is in Chicago. But rather than fix the real cause of the problem, which has been pointed out earlier, he wants to punish admitedly RESPONSIBLE gunowners elsewhere.

Sistema, you nailed it!

"Obama, enemy of the US Constitution, 1 each, domestic.

One of those I swore to defend against."

Not that it matters either way, but no he's not. He's a Christian and has never been a Muslim.

And no, I don't support Obama and would never vote for him or someone that would push the same policies as he.

Of course, Obama hates guns. There is this dirty little secret that few are aware of: One of the largest of the liberal Democrat constituencuies are convicted felons. Yes, i know many of you thought that felons are not allowed to vote. That would be wrong; convicted felons vote in at least 38 states. At least one state allows incarcerated felons to vote. Felons made the difference in the hotly contested WA governors race.

"If disenfranchised felons had been allowed to vote, they would have swung the 2000 presidential race to Al Gore, according to a national study Republicans are touting in their fight to overturn Christine Gregoire’s victory in last fall’s governor’s race.

The study posits that since racial minorities and the poor – groups that tend to vote for Democrats– make up a disproportionate number of felons, a hypothetical felon voting bloc would be so overwhelmingly Democratic it could swing national and statewide elections.

On average, 74 percent of felons would have voted Democratic in presidential and U.S. Senate elections dating back to 1972, according to the study’s analysis of demographic and voting data.

Of Democratic presidential candidates, the study predicts that Bill Clinton’s successful 1996 re-election campaign would have gotten the highest percentage of felon votes, at 85.4 percent. Jimmy Carter’s failed 1980 re-election would have gotten the lowest, at 66.5 percent."

Why is it that these people cannot be prosecuted as traitors to the the Constitution? And to the people who elected them?
Because of the Constitution. It guarantees them the right to say things like this. And when what they say becomes law, as it did in the '94 AWB, there's a constitutional way to change the law. I'm as pro RKBA as anybody else here. I just recognize that politics in a republic is a messy affair where by design nobody gets their way all the time, and when anybody, or any group, would use the law to shut up those with views that are disliked, that's the ultimate betrayal of the Constitution. While the 2nd may be the Amendment that defends all the others, the 1st is probably first for a good reason.

Ha!

"That type of weapon belongs on a battlefield, not on the streets of Chicago."

I don't remember Obama ever coming down to SW Houston to take a bullet from the Katrina riff-raff we had to contend with. When the only thing between an honest Texan and a chalk line was a WASR10 a or standard cap G19. :scrutiny:

"My vote's going to Romney or Thompson.'

Yep, Mitt Romney has a fine gun record. The idiot insisted on and signed into law the PRMA AWB after the federal ban expired.

All the politicos and celebs who claim that "guns never make anyone safer" should begin by disarming their bodyguards - that is if they believe their own rhetoric.

He also said government should support and fund more after-school programs to keep kids off the streets. But some of the burden must also be shouldered by residents who need to do more to raise and protect at-risk children, he added.

The residents don't have jobs, an education, self esteem or any prospects asking them to raise their own kids might be a stretch.

"We have an entire generation of young men in our society who have become products of violence, and we are going to have to break the cycle," Obama said. "There are too many young men out there who have gone down the wrong path."

Okay, but what does this have to do with guns? The last I checked this generation has being going on since 1963. When grandpa is a gangbanger and grandma got pregnant so that she could get welfare to become "independent" who is going to set the example? When grandma is a crack whore who is the family leader?

He later added, "There's a reason they go out and shoot each other, because they don't love themselves. And the reason they don't love themselves is because we are not loving them enough."

Clearly they did not watch Barney when they were growing up. Whose fault is that?

Well put, that's a money where your mouth is statement if I ever heard one.

"We have an entire generation of young men in our society who have become products of violence, and we are going to have to break the cycle," Obama said. "There are too many young men out there who have gone down the wrong path."

IIRC, each previous generation had more guns per capita than now. Hmm, seems we need more guns, not less. Did Hillary and this guy make a deal to see who could look the dumbest?

He stated that he wanted a ban on all semi-automatic firearms on his website. The AWB is simply a compromise on his part. I'm scared that people like him are able to get this far in politics but I'll have a good laugh while he's giving his concession speech.
