"From South Central L.A. to Newark, New Jersey, there's an epidemic of violence that's sickening the soul of this nation," the Illinois senator told the crowd.
If you want to go hunt, go hunt. Nobody is trying to take your shotgun or rifle away," he said
But when you've got the gun lobbying saying that we can't use ballistics to trace back where guns came from ... then it is time for us to stand up to the gun lobby and say enough. It is time for a change in Washington."
"A couple weeks ago, cops found an AK-47 near a West Side school," he said. "That type of weapon belongs on a battlefield, not on the streets of Chicago."
He clearly indicates the problem, whatever it may be, is in Chicago. But rather than fix the real cause of the problem, which has been pointed out earlier, he wants to punish admitedly RESPONSIBLE gunowners elsewhere....if you go down to Downstate Illinois, that's an important part of the culture there and people use guns responsibly in those situations.

Because of the Constitution. It guarantees them the right to say things like this. And when what they say becomes law, as it did in the '94 AWB, there's a constitutional way to change the law. I'm as pro RKBA as anybody else here. I just recognize that politics in a republic is a messy affair where by design nobody gets their way all the time, and when anybody, or any group, would use the law to shut up those with views that are disliked, that's the ultimate betrayal of the Constitution. While the 2nd may be the Amendment that defends all the others, the 1st is probably first for a good reason. Why is it that these people cannot be prosecuted as traitors to the the Constitution? And to the people who elected them?
Not surprising. I thought it was pretty well established that Obama is an anti. My vote's going to Romney or Thompson.
He also said government should support and fund more after-school programs to keep kids off the streets. But some of the burden must also be shouldered by residents who need to do more to raise and protect at-risk children, he added.
"We have an entire generation of young men in our society who have become products of violence, and we are going to have to break the cycle," Obama said. "There are too many young men out there who have gone down the wrong path."
He later added, "There's a reason they go out and shoot each other, because they don't love themselves. And the reason they don't love themselves is because we are not loving them enough."
All the politicos and celebs who claim that "guns never make anyone safer" should begin by disarming their bodyguards - that is if they believe their own rhetoric.
