Shooting a gun into the air is a major no no here in Phoenix, we have Shannons Law, named for the 16 year old girl who was struck in the head and killed a couple of years ago by some dumb f**k firing a celebratory shot into the air. You can get 2 years in jail, up to $250,000 fine and no more guns for you! The cops have a triangulation device that can pinpoint the location of gunfire to within 25 yards, if you live in a city it's one of the stupidest things you can do with a gun. I'm a commercial roofer and you would be amazed at the collection a bullets i have taken from roofs i inspect

lots of booms but none that i could positively id as gunfire. most likely fireworks.

if i wasnt at a party and drinking i might have gone out to the local shooting spot and let off a few rounds.....

Heard a 9 mm and a .45 go off about 7 feet from me. I was going to add another 9 mm to it, but I didn't want to have to deal with the police if the neighbors got cranky. FWIW, they were fired into the ground about 4 feet in front of them.

sounded like a war zone surrounding my neighborhood....for about an hour and a half...
with some of the more identifiable being: full auto AK fire, full auto 9mm?, the occasional 12 gauge, and what sounded like 1/2 sticks of dynamite.
no shooting for me though, i stayed inside where it was realitively safe.
and i live in the NICE part of town.

heard one, heard it hit the ground as well... which really ticked me off.

Just a few fireworks here (I live in a very quiet area). If it was legal, I'd take the Beretta 12 gauge outside, crank off 11 shells of #8 birdshot, and call it good.

15 miles west-northwest of Savannah, GA. All is quiet.

I used to live in Albuquerque, NM. I would always be on the first floor of my house at the start of the new year. :uhoh:

no need for guns around here we get the "Good" stuff from Wyoming and blow it up instead,.

not only did I hear it but my neighbor had a window broken by shot. How did we figure this out? While the cops were there doing the report I went over with my ladder to look at the window to help patch it up and found several bb/buckshot pellets in the rain gutter

I originally stepped outside to light up a smoke as the ball came down. I was out there for a few minutes, and I heard and saw some distant fireworks.

Then, quite suddenly, at 12:03 or so, I heard what sounded like actual gunfire, from less than 100 yards. Since I don't live in the best neighborhood, I thought that at best, some folks were likely to be pretty unsafe and shoot into the air. At worst, it may not have been New Year's related. So I quietly stepped inside again and locked the door.

Edit: 100th post! Now I'm a senior member! All of a sudden, I feel important...

Out here in Lower Podunkia, there were all kinds of bangs at midnight, including a few blanks from an SKS at the White house. Gunfire and explosives are a tradition around here. And amazingly, no one got killed, hurt or probably even felt threatened.

Quiet here. We are on the edge of town (literally) and just outside the limits it's OK to let loose one your own property. No one did. It's not like in the city where one is well advised to stay clear of windows for fear of morons.

The kids stayed up and I lit a bunch of left over sparklers in the snow for them at midnight; they looked cool as they melted the snow into inverted cones and sort of made it glow. Very pleasant. Happy New Year!

I didn't hear anything, but I went to bed at 10:00, too. ;)

If it is safe and legal to do so and you follow the four rules and their corollaries, I see nothing wrong with a little NYE "fireworks." ;) But some of the posts here do not strike me as such. :uhoh:

No gunshots noticed in my AO (Western NC). Certainly none by me - I don't wanna ring in the New Year by staying up and cleaning my gun! ;)

+1 to being RESPONSIBLE if you do touch off a few rounds to celebrate. Don't give the antis more ammo to use against US. Remember when IANSA was using people shooting into the air to celebrate things as one of their countless "justifications" to ban guns?

Of course, taking it to the extreme of wanting to ban FIREWORKS probably hurt them there....

I was at work (Disneyland park) and while it was plenty noisy I can say with a certain amount of surety that none of it was gunfire heh.

We did have to cancel the fireworks due to wind however, talk about some disappointed party goers.

All was quite in my corner of NH. I live next to a maintained snow mobile trail, close enough to have to close my blinds to block the headlights, and they were going all night and there were some whoops and hollers at midnight from the trail, that was it.

I live in San Francisco, about two blocks from the beach. Someone out here must have had a lot of money to burn, because there were professional style firworks being launched out over the ocean. Just an incredible show, it went on for about 10 minutes! Lots of firecrackers, too, but no gunfire in this area.

Hunter's Point might be a different story...

You need another option...I was sound asleep. But the fireworks were already going off when I got home a little after 6 pm. And they were going strong right up until I went to bed. But I didn't hear anything that sounded like gunfire, although I'm sure some people fired off rounds.

Heard something that might have been a shot, while I was out walking. Loud enough for me to backtrack and peer around the corner to check.

Gunfire in this neighborhood would not especially surprise me.

I fired a few rounds myself. But I live in a very small village (about 9 houses here;)) and the neighbors with their little baby were not at home, so it bothered nobody. And I used a little hill as backstop and waited for the other neighbors to start their firework, so nobody notices. I must profit from the only time of the year when I can shoot at home without somebody calling the police:D

Heard what sounded like a few 9mm's and some shotgun blasts in the neighborhood. Thought about taking my .357 out and letting a few go, but didn't want to remind myself why I hate that POS gun.
