Do any of you store OC spray in your vehicles during the summer?

Ever had a problem with an OC AD during those hot summer months?

Yes sir, I have had pepper spray "cook-off" inside my car before. I used to work club security and did it for yearsand years. When I was thru bouncing for the night, I would put all the equiptment that I carried(except for guns and knives), in a gear bag and put it on the car seat next to me and head for home. Well, one night I must have dropped my OC fogger next to the seat instead of in the bag. My wife found it the next day and tossed it into the glove compartment and forgot about it. I could not find my fogger in the bag and never thought to ask my wife if she had seen it. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I am driving around on a REALLY hot day. A truly broiling summer day. I started noticing that my damn eyes were running and would not stop. I didnt smell anything out of the ordinary, but my eyes kept tearing up. I thought that maybe I was getting some kind of exhaust leak in the interior of the car, so a couple of times I got out and looked my car over. Even crawled partway underneath it. Got back in and it was as bad or worse. I drove around like that for 2 hours, like an idiot, looking like I was bawling. I finally got into the glovebox to look for a tissue or napkin, and lo and behold I found the real culprit. The heat had swelled the pepper canister enough that the seal around the top had split a little and had let some of the OC escape. I tossed it in the trash, bought a new one and learned a good lesson.

I treat my OC as I would any aresol container. That means protecting it from temperature extremes. Never had one to rupture, but I wouldn't discount the possibility.

oc spray

I have used pepper spray for a while as a prison guard here in Texas. Primarily- body guard LE-10. I also keep a can on hand when traveling. Remember it is unlawfull to carry any pepper spray aboard a commercial air plane. I always carry mine with me when I exit my car due to the heat issues.

I've kept a Fox Labs can in my car for about 2 years with no problem. Keep it out of direct sunlight, give it a shake occasionally to keep it mixed.
I'm about to replace it, just because it's time to. Also replacing the one I carry and the one I keep by the door at home. And the keychain unit.:)

I live in Arizona, so leaving anything in a car is bad news. I blew up a 12 pack of Sprite in the back of my sisters Buick once by letting it sit in the sun. I'd hate to think what would happen if it had been OC  . The damn Sprite was a big enough pain to clean up.
