A New York City cop is being hailed as a hero for confronting and shooting a would-be robber while she was getting her hair done at a salon, the New York Times reports.

Officer Feris Jones was off-duty and enjoying a day of pampering at a Brooklyn beauty parlor Sabine's Hallway when suspect Winston Cox allegedly entered the salon, took out a revolver, and ordered the women to give him their money, according to the paper.

Hey -- dos can wait. Do-gooding can't.

Now if New York could recognize that the same good could be done with guns in citizens hands...

I live in NY and work in NYC.

They promoted her to Captain immediately and I have no problem with that I suppose.

There has been a lot of discussion in NY about guns and cops using unnecessary force. It is unfortunate that the lady cop shot the bad guy in the hand since, now the public and legislature will want all cops to shoot bad guys in the hands.

What I would like to know is this. Did the lady cop intend to shoot the gun from the hand of the bad guy? I hope the answer is no.

I would hope that she was taught to aim for the bad guy's torso for a kill shot since all involved were in immediate life threatening danger.
