A much talked about, but really not very important subject.
  • Never said it was important.
  • In fact, more than saying it was important, I specifically disclaimed a desire for "surgically clean" or "jewelry grade" (thanks, Nature Boy for the "jewelry grade" term) brass on several occasions in this one thread alone.
  • I will celebrate my 40th year reloading in two weeks, so I'm "pre-internet, too".
  • And when I stated reloading, "cleaning" consisted of me going over the "new to me" cases with a shop vacuum.
So, since we've now both verified our antiquity, reminisced about our range time with Fred and Barney, and held forth on our experiences with tarnished brass, would you care to tell me why you're busting my chops over asking about what other polishing media people have used?

The draw back with the Coke test is that soda or Pop has many other things in it and you have no idea of the phosphoric acid content.

Lime Away cleaner has HCL and sulfonic acid, OH MY!

A better choice might be one of these.

Te olde trick of keep a Coke in the trunk to dissolve corroded lug nuts when you had a flat tire. Remember that?:)

I have tried all sorts of stuff, if its been suggested, I gave it a shot. Kitty litter was the worst by far, might as well used cement and water.

I did that once as an experiment. Fine dust went everywhere. I had to wash a bunch of stuff, including the brass. Seemed like a good idea at the time... o_O

I suppose I am lucky, in that the kitty litter wasn't my idea, I was just too young to understand that there are lots of folks that don't know much of anything but talk like they do.

I just reread both of my posts. If you think I'm "busting your chops" you are paranoid, I did not criticize you or your posts. I mentioned the subject gets more forum space than any other reloading activity and is probably the least important. In my first post I shared what I did and what I used, and said not much of anything about your methods/ideas...
