As already mentioned, there are real guns with dayglo colour finishes. I've seen them in purple and orange. They most certainly do look like toys. With AirSoft making toy guns that look very real and certain gun manufacturers making real guns that look just like toys there isn't really any way to distinguish the difference from a few feet away. I've even seen BB guns with an enlarged muzzle shroud that makes the gun look like an authentic 9MM. The officer was justified ...

Take a look at your local Walurusworld at some of the BB and CO2 Handguns. If I were a cop andsomeone pointed one of these at me, I would do exactly what this Cop did. An LEO facing this typeof situation has a split second to make a decision.

Like some people already said, look at wally-world in the sporting goods section right now....
Hey look you can buy an airsoft gun that looks like a PPK/S (that’s the latest one I saw)
Also, if you have ever seen professional airsoft guns made by Tokyo Mauri, ICS, Classic Army, TOP, KSC.. their are others. They are designed to look exactly like the original, and they do. (they sell around 400$ as well, so the detail on some of them are perfect, you couldn’t tell from 5 feet or unless you held it)
Also Some come with metal frames, others you can buy metal frames, their realistic.
Most of these expensive airsoft guns come with that orange blaze tip right? Well usually they are thread locked on the tip of the barrel, just get a blow dryer (To heat up the tip) and slowly twist it off. They also provide you with the original muzzle tip so you just screw that one on, wa-la! No more orange tip.
The Sad thing if that cop didn’t shoot, reasoning he thought it might have been a bb gun, and the guy ended up having a real gun and killing someone. That cop and that department would have bee sued.
