Well after talking to you guys and reading on the site I was ready to get a Traditions 1858 remington new army. I understand these are made by Pietta. The other night we were at a friends and I was talking to him about this and he said don't do it. He pulled out his and showed me several flaws. The front sight looked to be glued on and fell off. Everything about the pistol was very sub standard. He won't shoot it anymore. He says to get a Umberti or else I will be wasting my money. The only hting is his barrel was stamped with a longer name. Sorry I don't remember but it was something pietta. Is this a old one? Is the newer Pietta's really gotten better. Anyway thanks in advance for your insite.

Pietta went through a period where their quality was pretty spotty. With the Remingtons if you get one made in the last 5 years or so you shouldn't have any problems. Buy it new from Cabela's they always have them on sale and include a return postage slip with each order in case you don't like it.

The recent Pietta's are all CNC machined and the quality is amazing for the price. I have a Pietta 58 Remmy and the accuracy is outstanding, with the Kirst 45 LC conversion cylinder and 185 grain cast, awesome.

F.LLIPIETTA is what mine is stamped

I have had no trouble with my Traditions Pietta 1858 Remington I bought from Cabelas a couple years ago. The grips could fit the frame just a bit better at the top but all the metal fits nice & tight. The cylinder locks up as tight as my Smiths (mod 19 & 28) that got rebuilt last year. It's a nice accurate toy for the price.

I have three brand new Piettas from Cabelas...1858 Rem .36 cal...1858 Rem .44 cal Target...and an 1860 Colt Army .44 cal...all just about perfect! No complaints here!!!!

All manufacturers have QC issues but it is getting better. Pietta has been on CNC machines for about ten years now. The new Pietta Remingtons I have handled all had good fit and finish, the only suspect was the trigger creep, this could be improved. The 1858 from Cabela's is one of the better deals going. They have a great return policy if you should get a lemon, but that's unlikely.
