There was talk over the last few days of a huge drop in the stock market if the Democrats took control of the House. This was, of course, being said only be Republicans who thought they were about to lose and doing anything they could to scare people into voting for them. There was even a thread about this a few days ago.

Instead, it looks like it closed up for the day.

Maybe the sky won't fall even though the Republicans lost.

Why would the stock market crash? The economy is as healthy as a horse.

As long as Americans have their credits cards and cheap imported goods to buy.
I noticed Gold and Silver have been rising over the past month. This is usually
not an indicator of confidence. I've also heard that our Treasury Bonds are
not being snapped up like they use to either.....

Then there's this whatever it means:

Yes, if you mean a horse with a bad case of colic.

But don't worry, the stock market is unlikely to crash, at least in nominal terms. The Fed is busy creating so much money and credit out of thin air that while we might go the way of Weimar Germany, we are unlikely to see a crash in the market (unless you factor in inflation).

agreed: The market thinks about 3 months ahead and has plenty of time to digest the possibility of a Dem sweep.

the stock market might not have crashed but realty is hurting.Realtors and people like me who are trying to sell their house....well lets just say I've been moody lately as I wait for a buyer.Worse is that in the last 3 weeks 3 houses around my hood have sold at way higher prices than mine which is 20-30 g's lower than most comparable homes, and mine has alot of brand new fixed up clean everything..

I've had numerous people look,no buyers.Property taxes and insurance my friends, the new election better fix that cause its out of control. Most potential buyers have commented on that.

And the "feds"...they had to go muck it up by twittling with the rates.....

sorry,a much needed self pitty rant.

And if buyers think that we,the sellers are going to drop 30...40%,Ive already dropped about 15%, they can go look at the ghetto part of town, where if you love guns you'll get to hear them in the wild every night outside your window........

Pharmaceuticals, forming one of the cornerstone segments of the current market, have already reacted to the prospect of medication price controls included in Democrat health care initiatives waiting in the wings.

Expecting a spectacular stock market crash is a little unrealistic  In the long-term, most Dem policies are not good for the economy as a whole.

What are you talking about??? I lost over $5000 in the last two days.

Good thing my portfolio is up 80% in the last five months, otherwise I'd go balistic.:scrutiny:

But then people realized that the Republicans increased spending MORE than either Carter or Clinton, so why worry about Democrats*?

*Actually I do worry plenty about Democrats, but it is true that for the last six years the Republicans have been even worse. Maybe it's because "conservatives" tend to go to sleep in Republican administrations?

Really? The Wall Street Journal ran a front page story in Tuesday's "Money & Investing" section predicting that the election wouldn't have any effect. The theory was that nothing would change if republicans maintained power (so no reason for stocks to change), and that there would be gridlock if Democrats got a majority in the house and/or senate (so Congress would have a hard time passing any laws that would muck things up for business).

"I lost over $5000 in the last two days."

Don't sweat the small stuff. Buy more. If it was a good buy two days ago it's a better deal now.

One dern day don't prove a single thing. Give it a week or a month or six months and we'll see what happens.

John...who will still be buying. Buy and hold, buy and hold.

Einstein said the greatest force in the universe was compound interest. ;)
