Well the first day of the Ohio gun season is tomorrow and looks to be ugly.

Weather reports are calling for overnight temps right at freezing with at least 50% chance of rain/snow showers and temps tomorrow to hold in the high 30s with continuing 50% chance of precipitation and winds in the 20-30mph range all day.

Right now, the call for Tuesday isn't any better. Darn it! We lost half of our seven day season to rain last year! We'll have two more days late in the month but by then the weather is usually turning grim in earnest.

Grumble, grumble grumble !! :cuss:

Good luck to all my fellow Buckeyes !

Huh...damn, sucks for you. Well, If worse comes to worse you can still go for black powder later on,
right?

7 day season wow thats not long. Our buck season is 12 days while doe season is 19.Blackpowder is 6.And a another doe season is 6

Man, you guys got it rough.

In SC, the season opens Aug 15th and closes Jan 1st. 2 deer per day, numerous doe days, and you can buy 4 doe tags for $5.00 each.

I don't know if I could stand the pressure of those short seasons.

Good luck to you too! I dont think i could set out longer than a week in this weather to get the right deer, if that happens?little wet snow out there today, maybe more rain & snow , tracks in snow, ooh, looks good for tommorrow up in northwest OH

Hey Dudes - that 7 days + 2 later is just for the "regular gun" season (Shotguns, blackpowder and straight-walled pistol calibers (YAY!).

We have other black powder seasons and a long archery season, and can buy extra antlerless permits for $15 until midnight tonight (but they are good until the end of the hunting year). By shuffling permits and areas we can take 6 deer per year though only one can be a buck.

I know it's not great but, hey, the rules are made by politicians, not hunters. And anyway, it's not far to Kentucky, West Virginia, or even Tennessee although a lot of their hunters come up here.

I sure would love to hunt Virginia though. :)

Jim Walker - Yeah, I think you are going to luck out and get snow up there. We're in line for sleet and slush. :(

Plenty of deer and good bucks to share around here. Late black powder opens in 2 weeks, running through the first week of the new year I think.

Should be quite a day to try for my first ever "black powder" deer.
I've got the the "clingy" wrap & rubber bands ready.
Good luck to my fellow Buckeyes as well!

We had 34-degree rain and 20-30mph winds all day. Was out almost 3 hrs. in the AM and 3.5 in the afternoon. Saw nothing and I think I heard no more than five shots all day. Tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same but Wednesday is supposed to be warmer and at least partly sunny.

Good Luck !

If you do end up hunting VA then hunt Bedford County. Best place in the world for hunting.

Bedford is pretty good, but I've heard is over-hunted.

Grayson on the other hand, not so much, especially during late black powder.

Couple of years ago, withing a few minutes of each other, I took a 12 and my neighbor took a HUGE 11 in the same proximity.
