Monkeyleg: I am guided by principles, not laws. Fortunately, most laws are in agreement with my principles, which probably explains why I am not in prison. But when a manmade law is not in agreement with my principles, I must make a choice: Should I violate my principles and adhere to an immoral law? Or should I “stand like a rock,†as Mr. Jefferson once said?

As a sovereign human answerable only to my Creator, the only moral and righteous choice is to follow my conscience. I don’t know about you, but I would not be able to look myself in the mirror knowing I replaced a God-given right with a state-sanctioned permission slip.

the public records issue was enough to deter me from getting a permit

from my understanding, it's not really public record. from what i have been told you must be a reporter and have a specific reason for the name being supplied. also only one name will be given at a time.

it's better than nothing. but once it is in we can fight to change it. which is far better than nothing if you ask me.

As the bill was finalized I do not have a problem with the public records issue. It was before the compromise was reached and it looked like the names would be listed for all to see that I had reservations. For me the bill is worth supporting and like several people have stated we can fix it in the future. I also don't see how there is a moral issue here. Anyone who chooses can still open carry with no restrictioins or permit so they have that choice. I prefer to carry concealed if legal and will do so. Everyone wins.

Molon Labe: "I am guided by principles, not laws."

Lots of us are guided by principles. Getting arrested is a principled objection to a law. On the other hand, so is getting like-minded people together and working toward a law that lives up to your principles. Can't get that law passed? Find candidates who agree with your principles and work to get them elected.

It is much easier to go from a shall-issue permitting system to no permits required, than to go from no-issue to no permits required. It just takes more work.

Edited to replace a long-winded and generally stupid post.

Molon Labe, I agree with you completely. A free man should NEVER have to ask the king's permission to exercise his rights.

Unfortunately, the political climate being what it is, and previous generations leaving us a screwed-up mess, we have to take it back the same way the anti's took it from us: one small piece at a time.

I would love to have Alaska-style CCW here in Ohio, so that just in case I ever decided to go out of state, I could legally carry in a bunch of other states. Or, I could carry all around Ohio without a permit, and not have to worry about Officer Schtinkle getting all butt-hurt about it and throwing my ??? in the clink. I know the kind of guys that are in those places. They're not people that I would ever willingly choose to associate with.

No, this bill isnt perfect, or even anywhere NEAR perfect, IMO. But its a start.

Oh, BTW, there was a rep. in the state legislture that introduced a bill a while back, or an amendment to HB 12, that would have given us Vermont-style carry. I dont remember his name, but he was from...get this....CINCINNATABABWE! Aint that a shock?!

I found that tidbit here: www.ogrc.org

I'm a little too tired to find it myself so I ask here. What is the deal with this bill giving people such as farmers the ability to carry concealed on their own private property? Was it not legal before?

So I guess people were breaking the law by trying on a concealment holster while in their apartment or house. Man, let's change this thing.

I think what it is is that they can carry on their own property without having to obtain a permit. Before I believe it fell under the usual 'affirmative defense', which is a load of crap. The burden of proof should NEVER be on the man to prove his life is in danger; it should remain with the state to prove that it ISNT.

I am on 9 some acres and do not have it labeled as a farm, as I understand it anyone can carry concealed on their land. I thought this was the law when I was in the burbs and this is how it was explained to me.

I could be wrong, that is easy in this stupid state. But I was told that if I was on my land I could carry concealed, from any yard size on up to super yard size.

You have to watch local restrictions and what not though.

All I have to add to what the elected folks passed is this concept, "Why would I elect you to do things that I feel go against my personal rights as a human being?"

Taft is such a jack-hole:barf:

Come to think of it with an attitude like this:

"Sen. Jim Carnes, R-St. Clairsville, is among those who supports a concealed handgun bill but would not override Taft's veto. He points to a respect for the executive branch and solidarity among Republicans."
{ from ofcc.net }

Carnes and anyone that shares his attitude are worse.
*** does "solidairty among Republicans" mean anyhow?

not sure i called him again today but it just rang for like 10 minutes.

if he vetos i am going to be pissed. i already have calls to my state senator and state house rep. so incase he does we have a chance for the over ride.
