DamnedDirtyApe,

The law does indeed say there is a 45 day max. However, that 45 day period is the amount of time, at a maximum, that the sheriff has between the time he accepts the application and the time he hands out the license.

There is (unfortunately) no regulation as to how many apps an office will process in a day, or how many days the waiting list can stretch...

"Probably won't carry all of these at the same time." Hehehe. Very funny, smart alec. ;)

I'm in Michigan and I'm eagerly awaiting for Ohio to set up reciprocity with my state as I drive through Ohio several times a year.

I usually carry a Makarov as well. I figure I'll use one of my mil-surp Mak shoulder holsters for car carry, and transfer to my IWB once I'm out of the car. (I have a few extra shoulder holsters I could part with if anyone wants one)

I tell you, that "Handgun must be visible while in the car" rule is the stupidiest part of any CCW law I've ever heard of!

In order to qualify for an Ohio permit you must be a resident of your county or an adjacent county for at least 90 days. They want addresses, SSN and fingerprints
And thats where I'll test the system. I have been a resident of Lorain County for 37 years. There wont be any false information on the application. My home of record is my brothers house in Ohio.

Being military my home of record is that address. Not the area that I live in. Wierd huh. But it works out for me.

I will in fact check it out when I get back that way to see what they have to say.

How many police are going to shoot CCW holders when they see a gun in a car? I would have the window rolled down, light on, and hands on the top of the steering wheel, and tell the officer first thing, I have a CCW permit, and have it in your hand,

AND MAKE NO SUDDEN MOVES!!!!!

And how many soccer moms in SUVs will pull up next to someone, see a pistol and frantically call 911?

Lenny,
That's pretty cool then! I'd be interested to hear exactly how they handle that. I've been an Ohio resident for 27 years total, but moved awayfor four years and then moved back four years ago. Since it's not consecutive, they made me pay for the extra FBI check.

Really though, how many soccer moms in SUVs have you ever seen that had ANY idea as to what was going on in the world around them?
