I have an AK mag that has been sitting on top of my dresser for who knows how long (6-12 months easy) So anyways, I just happened to look at it and there is rust on the top of it and then I pushed the spring down only to see more rust inside of it. Do I need to be putting oil on and in my mags?? Or did my AK just come with crappy mags and I need to get some more? The Bulgarian mags I got from aim are just fine.

A very light coat of oil would do it good. Just to keep the rust off.

Whenever I get a new one, I take it apart, scrub it down, and spray the inside with a good silicone spray lubricant.

Remington Dry-Lube spray is great for magazines.

It won't collect dust or kill primers like oil.

+1 to the Various "dry film" lubes for use on magazines. But a little rust won't hurt an AK mag :)

I use a layer of Birchwood Casey Barricade on all my mags. It provides a light layer of lubrication and a good level of rust prevention. I coat all my firearms with it before they go in the safe.
