SO I was out shooting my RIA 1911 .45 and my EMP 9mm last night, or rather, really early this morning (like 4:30 or so)...

Any I'm not getting into a peeing match over caliber, or stopping power (whatever that is), but I will say this.

I was practicing slow draw/shoot drills from 5 meters into the indoor trap, and when I shot the .45, I'd get chunks of sand blowing back at me, I could hear little particles hitting the cement in front o me, sometimes copper jacket flying through the air.

But with the 9, same lane, same target, same trap, same distance, same brand of ammo (greenbox UMC), all FMJ, and nothing. Bullet goes through target,
down into the trap, and that was it...

It just seems like with all that debris flying everywhere, that .45's just gotta do more damage. But maybe not. But it sure seems like it. I sure wouldn't want to practice any 3 foot drills with it, I'd need armor to stop the sand...

I'll have to remember this the next time I'm attacked by quicksand.;)

LOL! That's just like a .45 to fretter away it's more limited allotment of energy blowing sand around instead of punching a deeper hole! Dennis

What's wrong 9mm fans? Can't handle the truth?

I've also observed some weird phenomina while shooting .45 and 9mm. The dirt berm is unaffected by 9mm but .45 blows it to pieces. My range has even instated a rule that if you don't bring a load of replacement dirt with you, you're simply not allowed to fire anything in .45 caliber.

Something else to watch for that most people never notice. Firing .45 acp shakes the ground similar to an earthquake, it actually registers on the richter scale, albeit only 3.1.

If you're hit with .45 acp it's 100% fatal. This is a proven fact and any stories or reports to the contrary are government conspiricies to trick you into buying 0% fatal 9mm.

Above is my poor attempt at sarcasm. .45 is nice, but 9 is fine.

When sand is turned into glass by the 9MM it cannot fly back into your face! The .45 just barely makes it to the 5 yard back stop at about the bottom of it's flight trajectory, resulting in a slight splash in the sand.

Haven't you guys read the rules?

Arguments about religion are out of order.

Seriously, though - - It didn't take long to wear out that topic, huh?
