i have 2 1911's both springfield armory 1 a g.i. model parked 5 incher and i have fired bout 5o rnds thru it and put it away i got it mostly due to my grandpa carried one in the wwii so it just sits and i can replace it anytime, anyway i have a friend who wants to trade me for a lnib cz-85with lpa target sights in black polycoat with 2 full-cap mags all paperwork and the factory box, and to sweeten the deal he will throw in a colt police positive in .32 dont ask why but my wife wants it. anyway would ya'll do this i wanted a cz-75 but i'm a lefty and they don't work for me but the 85 is fully ambi friendly. and the 85 is pre-b which means what? thanks and i need info asap. thanks a million

Pre-ban probably means it came with a hi-cap magazine, but that may soon be a moot point. It is true you can always buy another Springer, and I will have to admit the 1911 is not optimal for south-paws. The Colt Police Positive is a nice little revolver, but be sure it works right because getting one fixed can be dificult and expensive. They were hand built by craftsman and they have to be repaired the same way.

It really boils down to a simple question - which gun(s) would you rather have? No one else can answer that.

well model i dont know..

but it says colt police positive 32colt catridge its a 4incher and it has turned a plum color but seems too function fine i have not shot it. but it times and locks up well.i dont know why the crazy lady wants it but every since she saw it she has drove me crazy about it.

Absolutely not!

Trade away your grandpa's 1911 that he carried in WWII. To me that would be a priceless piece. Jus' my opinion of course, but I would not trade off a family piece, and secondly, I wouldn't give up a 1911 for a CZ-85 & a Colt Police positive.

Keep the 1911. Be in his shoes and wonder why he's tossing in the police positive. Its cuz he really WANTS that 1911!

Good luck. Keep your gun.

Tuner, you is a wise gentleman .... :neener: :D :D

On the .32 Colt Police Positive: Open the cylinder and look at the frame under the barrel. The serial number should be stamped there. Post the serial number using "xx" for the last two numbers and someone can check and see when it was made. I can't, I left my books back in Arizona.

I understood the 1911 clone to be a Springfield Mil Spec. Simular to the 1911 his grandfather carried in the war. Not the actual pistol. I think the Springer is about a $400 gun. If you're looking at dollars the CZ and the Colt are worth somewhere around $500-600 collectively. I wouldn't mind having the old Colt as a collectable, it may be too fragile to shoot a great deal. The CZs are fine pistols, but sure do like my 1911s!

Shooter1 caught one misinterpretation of the original post, here's another; pre-b means pre CZ B series without the firing pin block safety. I've not found the block safety to make much if any difference in trigger pull, and whether a firing pin safety is desirable is debatable. The only other real difference between the two series is cosmetic, the pre-Bs usually have a rounded trigger guard rather than the serrated one on later models. Pre-Bs are in somewhat higher demand by some CZ afficianados.

I'd not hesitate to trade an unlikely to be used much SA GI model for a LNIB CZ 85 alone, much less with the Colt thrown in as well.

No Deal

No sir, I wouldn't be interested in this deal at all. While the total
of both of his guns is marginal; I think you would enjoy blowing
the dust off the Springer G.I. model .45. Besides, it ain't gonna
hurt it one bit to get it too the range every now and then.

Here's my advice.
Flip a coin. Heads keep. Tails trade. Catch it in your right hand. Slap it down on the back of your left hand. Before you look which one were you hoping for. Trade or keep. do the one you were hoping for.

I'm not sure I understood the original post, but it sounds like you have 2 Springfield GI's that you don't shoot much, you'd like to have a 75B but you're left handed and you've been offered a trade of an lnib 85 + 2 full capacity mags and the Colt for 1 of your GI's. If you like 75s, you'll probably like the 85 even more, especially if you're left handed. I've never seen a pre-B 85 in person, but they still make a pistol called the 85 Combat which is similar to the pre-B 75s in that it doesn't have the firing pin block. Unlike the B models (75B & 85B) the 85 Combat also has the adjustable rear sight (this may be the model he has). I have not handled an 85 Combat in several years, but from what I recall (which has probably been reinforced by other 85C owners' comments) it had a very good trigger (it was a display gun that probably had quite a few dry fires on it) and the fit and finish (satin nickel) was also very good. You might want to check out the CZForum for more info about this gun. It may be a true pre-B, transitional or a newer Combat model - any of which would be worth the trade if you like them.

and crt36o is the winner

as he hit it on the nose the 85 is the combat model adjustable sights lpa i believe the drop free mags and no pesky firing pin block. i have a witness compact that like the bhp and the cz-75 are either s/a or s/a capable as i am left handed ok before anyone says use your right hand dummy i can't as i had a truamatic amputation to my right hand and lost my trigger finger and part of the middle one. anyone i have modified my witness and my 1911's to be ambi and wanted a pre-b 75 but then as fate does sometimes it dropped this 85 combat in my lap. well thanks gentleman for the advice i'm going for the 85 combat. range report will be forthcoming / oh and this is a mystery this is defintely a combat as it has the lpa sights and no mag brake and no fpb it is polycoated and has a squared trigger guard like the b. oh and i dont have 2 gi model springers i have 1 gi and 1 loaded in gloss blue that one aint going nowhere ,,,, thanks scooterbear,,,,,, 1 fine gentleman.
