OK, now I need a crash course on Israeli Mausers...

I know that they are K-98 rifles that were acquired and converted by the Israelis to 7.62 Nato.
What I need to know is if they are reliable with the shorter cartridge. I have seen them listed in a few places, and although they seem to be a little rough, I think that I could refinish one.
I think that this would be more feasible than taking a perfectly good 8mm and converting it.
I know that a couple have already posted about them on my other thread, and I thank you for that.

I have one of the .308 Izzy Mausers and it works fine with the .308 rounds. It is an FN and I believe that it was an Izzy contract rifle since it has the Israeli crest on the receiver ring.

Had an FN manufactured Israeli Mauser (IDF crest on receiver) that had been converted to 7.62 from 7.92 mm. Gun looked like it had never been issued after converion. Never did feed as well from magazine as Mausers in original caliber or a Norwegian I had converted to 30/06. My guess is that the shorter NATO round need a filler in the front of the magazine to function as well as the original caliber.

Could the feeding problem be mitigated by loading handloads with slightly longer OAL?
That I could do...
I always load mine a little longer than the manual says anyway, just to give me a little more margin of "not blow myself up" factor.
Still, I would have to be careful not to get them too long.
Maybe I should just buy one and see what I see...

I bought one of the first lot of Izzy Mausers back in the late 80's. I have sporterized it with a hand carved California Claro Walnut stock, re-bluing, turned down the bolt handle, Bold trigger, 24" crowned bbl. Shoots 1.5" groups, bright bore. Took an antelope in WY with it last year. Zero feeding problems.

If I remember, they were imported to Israel from Yugoslavia or Cezch Republic. Mine is an FN as well with the beautiful IDF crest on it (is partially covered now by scope rings). I believe I paid $110 for a hand picked, excellent condition rifle then. Wish I'd bought 2 and kept one original.
