OK, Tell the Truth! Do You Carry a .32 Revolver for CCW ?

Yeah, I probably could have found it cheaper if I'd been willing to hunt a little harder, but you know how it is when you have a brand new gun and can't shoot it.

Yes, I know the feeling. :)

I buy most of my .32 S&W Long from Sportsman's Guide. Set up an account and they will send you emails with their specials. About every 4-6 weeks they do a free shipping special.

Yes I saw that. Its actually a revolver that I am justifying using the excuse to give it to my wife, so it needs to appeal to her. The gold/black color wont do anything for her, but pink, or lavender will. I have many 22s, 38s, 357s, and 44s, so I really have no need for a 32, but I am curious about the caliber, and the felt recoil. I really wish Charter still had the Patriot snub available. That was a 6 shot 327 Federal Magnum, and a 327 will shoot all the lesser 32 cartridges, with the exception of 32acp.

The felt recoil is less than a 380. I am somewhat recoil sensitive, and I find the Charter 32 very enjoyable to shoot using 32 H&R mag rounds.
We need to lobby HKS to make a speedloader for it. Speed strips are the only thing I can find for it.

Zendude im pretty sure the HKS 32J speedloader works for the charter arms patriot.

edited: i just saw that your post about speedloaders was referring to the undercoverette...sorry...i dont see any speedloaders for it.

Loved carrying my UL731 H&R Mag with Magtech 100 grain S&W Longs. I don't have it any longer. I am now carrying at times a P32 with solids.

Postnote: After a couple of months with the new Undercoverette, I have mostly gone back to my Ruger LCR .38SPL for carry — not because of the difference in stopping power but simply because the LCR feels so much lighter in an ankle holster.

Pocket carry

Tanshanomi,

You might consider a pocket carry using one of the pocket holsters like the GALCO or De SANTIS. I carried my Undercover for years that way and a S&W model 38 before that.

Yep sure do. Carry my SP 101 3 inch in 327 Fed Mag with 115 gr Gold Dots just about every day.:)

Yes, I have. A 3" S&W model 31-1 and a 3" S&W pre model 30, both in .32 Long.
Also, a Ruger "Vaquerito" Single Six .32 H&R Mag.

The goldfinger model of the Undercoverette is aluminum and weighs 12oz, about the same as the LCR. The stainless model of the Undercoverette is 16oz.
I have the stainless Undercoverette but am thinking of getting the goldfinger and having Charter install the spurless hammer on it.

I bought this one for my wife and daughter. I got it barely used for around $225. It feels kind of cheap to me, but has been reliable. They both like it just fine.

I have four 32 revolvers. One is 327, two are 32 H&R, one is 32 S&W long. The NEF magnum will shoot 32acp with 100% reliability. The Charter Arms will usually shoot about half of a box of 32acp just fine, but won't fire the other ones. The Ruger 327 won't shoot them at all. I am NOT going to try them in my ancient S&W 32 long. 32acp has more pressure than 32 S&W, and I like my hands the way they are.

While I have a .32 H&R Mag, it's a Ruger Single Six
So no I don't carry it.

What I do carry is a Taurus Model 905B2 (9mm revolver - J-frame sized)
.32 H&R Magnum

Tell the truth, please.
No problem.

After owning and shooting a Kel-Tec .32, there is no way I would trust my life to such an anemic cartridge.

I get that a .32 Mag is more powerful, but it is also a larger weapon...j-frame .38/.357 size.

There are better choices. My Kahr PM9 is smaller, thinner and lighter than a j-frame, and holds two more rounds.

And a reload is quick and easy to carry.

Remember what engineers say?

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are different.

A J-frame is great... in theory.

A PM9 is great in practice.

Just to update my experience with the Charter Arms Undercoverette, I sold it in August, 16 months after I bought it. 1) It was much heavier than my .38 LCR, which has remained my main carry gun. 2) It was stunningly inaccurate. The non-adjustable sights were so far off that aiming at the bulls-eye of an 11"x17" target from 8 yards out, rounds would hit in the extreme bottom left of the target. If I tried to dial in some windage to compensate, I couldn't get a tight group. I realize that a snub-nose revolver is not meant to be a target pistol, but my other short-barrel wheelguns can reliably punch red with a bit of careful effort. The Undercoverette was destined to be a safe queen, so I passed it on.

Unfortunately, increasing recoil sensitivity in my right wrist (due to scaphoid-radius instability) has made my .38 Special LCR a real pain to shoot (literally). So, I am giving a .32 revolver another try. This time it's an Alfa Proj 731 (3" barrel, .32 S&W Long). While I would rather have something that can take .32 H&R Magnum, I couldn't pass up a brand-new A-P for $305 shipped. I will let you know how I like it once I pick it up.

That's a bummer that the Undercoverette didn't work out. Mine is accurate but is back at the factory because I am getting misfires due to light strikes on the primer. Charter makes a lighter version of the Undercoverette with an aluminum frame (12oz vs 16oz for the stainless version) but the aluminum ones are different colors. The Goldfinger one in black and gold is the only one that a guy could carry. The other two are pink and lavender :-/

The only other option for a new 32 is to lay down the cash for a Ruger LCR in 327 mag, which will also shoot 32 H&R and 32 S&W. Not the best time for us 32 fans right now.

I absolutely adore my 4.2" SP101 in .327 fed.

It's a tad big for EDC, but when I go for a walk in the woods, it's on my hip. It's my kit gun. From plinking mild little .32 S&W to stoking it with .327 for bigger critters, it's a winner.

If I didn't like the 9mm LCR so much, I would be all over the .327 right now.

One thing to keep in mind is that the .327 and 9mm LCRs are built on the .357's all-steel frame and weigh about 25% more than the partial alloy .38 Special version. I carry in an ankle holster and the lighter weight has really spoiled me!

The extra weight is actually what swayed me toward them. I find .38 alloy snubbies to be very inaccurate in my hands. the heavier 9mm remains lighter than an autoloader, but soaks up the recoil.

I am shocked at how well I shoot the 9mm LCR.

That said, I feel ya. Ankle holster carry would be noticeable if you are used to an 11 oz gun. Not such a big deal if it's a Glock 26 or something chunky.

I have carried a top-break S&W Model 1½ in .32 S&W concealed, but only in my SASS outfit with two 5½ inch Remington 1858 revolvers as my primary carry. :D

Just to be clear, the LCR will remain my carry gun. The Alfa will be for range proficiency. .32 H&R Mag is a fine PD round -- .32 Long is borderline.

My grandfather filed saws at home for the pulpwood haulers and kelp a colt .32-20 in his shop. I have a charter arms .327 mag and a older sw .32 I keep by my chair. I wished there were more .32 s on the market,as second hand .32 are hard to find. I always wanted a rifle in .32 sw long, would make a great squirrel gun.
