A friend of mine is thinking about selling his old Colt SAA revolver. It's been in his family for a long time, but he knows it's worth quite a bit. He's trying to figure out just how much, or at least a good starting price, as some estimates of value have been all over the place.

Thank you for any help.

I think it can be seen in one of the other photos. We looked it up and it was made in 1906.

The problem of reading serial numbers from a photo is that is is so easy to make a mistake and misread it. A 7 that looks like a 4 or a 8 that is misread as a 3 sometimes leads to false information. It can change a 2000 dollar gun into a 500 dollar one or vise versa. A little blurry or a small reflection of light. What ever.:banghead:

Sorry, didn't mean to offend.:(
I don't have his gun here, but was able to enlarge the photo on my computer: 275248

Truly, there was no offence taken or meant, It's just that I have made myself look foolish a couple of times by misreading Photo serial numbers :)

Thanks all, for the info. Somewhere in the vicinity of 2000+ is what he was told at the gun show today, from a knowledgeable collector. I think it's worth getting a Colt letter for before he sells it. It really is a nice piece. The bore and chambers look pristine.
