Old Model Browning Buckmark Disassembly

Hi guys,

I've got a gunsmithing question for you...

I just traded for a 1992 mfg. Browning Buckmark .22 pistol. I'm the kind of guy who has to take every gun he owns down to the last pin so I can understand how it works, especially a used gun that looks like it's never been cleaned (this thing is nasty). All the disassembly videos I see on Youtube show a different looking pistol internally than what I've got. The videos I'm looking at show the guide rod/recoil spring (and possibly even the firing pin) attached to a little rectangular shaped housing that pops up out of the slide, while on mine the rod and spring just lay across the bottom of the slide, with the firing pin below it in a slot that looks similar to the setup inside my 10/22, held in place with a roll pin.

Another thing I'm seeing is a little plastic tab that sits at the back of the rod/spring, in between the "post" you see in the last photo. My post has the same hole as the tab does to hold the back of the rod in place.

Did Browning make changes to the internals of this pistol? I see "pre-92" firing pins and sight base screws for sale on the net, but I'm totally baffled as to why my gun's guts look different, and why I can't seem to find any good info anywhere about my older Buckmark.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have one very close to yours, with in a year. Yes there are differences in the slide and other things, yours probably does not have a magazine disconnect. Yours looks just like mine.

Thanks, I think you are right. I ended up taking the whole thing apart, taking pictures, and I do have a pre mag disconnect model. I broke it down to the trigger and hammer and sear, but could not find reliable info on those dissasembly steps so left that alone for now. I'm thinking of buying a buckmark dissassembly guide for about 10 bucks on ebay, and hopefully that covers my older model. Thanks again

Instead of shelling out money for a manual, use it to buy some ammo.

Go here and you will get a really good tutorial on the buckmark with nice photos to boot. I used this as a guide to completely dissasemble my 92 Buckmark (pg 6 in the posting has additional info and details and also shows various changes in the model).....
