I have a SA TRP and i'm having a semi difficult time taking the gun apart for cleaning. The manual that came with the gun shows how to specifically take apart a TRP, but either I can't follow english instructions or they forgot to model my pistol correctly.
Basically i'm having a terrible time putting the recoil spring and 2 piece return rod back in place on the slide. The end of the rod has a hex key. (supplied with the gun) The Beretta 96 I had and the new XD9 allow you to remove the spring and rod with 2 fingers. Is this common with all 1911 pistols?
I guess i'm looking to try and take the spring and rod out in one peice like every other semi-auto pistol I have worked with. Is this not possible? Is there something I am missing? Is there an easier way?

Following this link, this is the part i'm having trouble with.

I don't have a hole in the guide rod to put that supplied pin into.

If i'm just stupid, don't hesitate to say so. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just unscrew the hex end, after you do that the barrel bushing is holding in the recoil spring plug, push down on it and rotate the barrel bushing-while holding pressure on the plug, once the bushing is rotated about a 1/4 turn the plug/cap and spring will come out....be careful it can pop ya in the eye.this is assuming you have the regular 2 piece guide rod, also I do this w/the slide still mounted on the frame.when reassembling, put the barrel in the slide, then the bottom part of the 2 piece rod in the slide, put slide back on frame and install spring and plug in slide, then screw in the hex head end of the rod.

Forgot to tell ya,it's easier if ya turn the slide upside down when reassembling.Let me know if it works,if not pm me and I'll give ya my # and we can disassemble/reassemble over the phone.

Allen head two-piece recoil spring guide rods are an invention of the Devil.
Throw it away and get a short GI guide and a plug with closed checkered end. I let FLG put one piece guide rods with the necessary slide mods for captured spring takedown (with one of those little L shaped tools) on my competition guns but he is not getting near my Commander with one.

Trp Pc9107l

can anyone enlighten with this new trp i bought. i took it apart to clean all the oil and grime the factory left behind and during the process i found the last three numbers of the serial number engrave on some of the parts of the gun. is this a standard procedure they do in springfild armory.
