Old Pocket Knife I Found

I couldn't find any Puma knives with a Cutlery stamp. Nor any other German knives with a stamp ending in "MA."

When I get back home in a couple weeks, will try to see if I can make the mark is a little clearer. It was pretty rusted so I soaked it overnight in Evaporust which makes everything black. Takes away the rust but leaves the carbon. Hence the black.

Ran a buffer wheel over the area with the brand. It’s not Puma. There is an “R” at the end and where it can be read it starts with an "S". Rest is not distinguishable due to sharpening. In the box that I found the knife in, I also found a Chauffeur’s license. I assume its the same person as my avatar only younger. A person born in 1894 and died in 1969.

My Google-Fu says that is a Wismar Cutlery Co knife. Here is another knife made by that same company (if I am right):

It looks like someone buried it the dirt for 50 years and then pee’d on it. It’s single blade. Ground down to about a nub for no good reason. If you want it HSO, it’s yours. Picture is above. Picture of owner is above as well, plus he’s my avatar picture.

For no good reason? Perhaps from an era when knives were used daily and resharpened, not safe queens.

My Great Uncle who owned the knife was a pack rat and a hermit. The knife was found in an old cigar box for a building that needed to be torn down 40 years ago. There were letters and the above license in the box. It served as a storage box for junk and a nest for families of mice. Anyhow the building is now history. I saved some things out the cigar box of which was this old knife.
