Old S&W M&P: safety question

You might want to run that gun past Roy Jinks, S&W's company historian. For a reasonable $30.00 fee (check made out to S&W), a copy of the picture you posted, and a discription including the full serial number (look on the bottom of the butt, and underside of barrel where it is normally covered by the ejector rod).

I say all of this because your revolver has a lanyard ring - and that would probably have been on special order. The probable increase in value of the gun/letter combination together would likely be more then the cost of the letter.

I don't know how it's done, but somebody here should be able to tell you. I don't even know if I have photoshop in my computer, or how to access it, or use it, or...

Old Fuff, might be a good idea to do that. The serial is in the eight hundred thousand range so was made 1940-41 or thereabouts. Someone told me that it could be a police revolver. If this is true did the police carry their revolvers using a lanyard, maybe a Sam Browne belt or something?

Some police officers did and some didn't. But at the time most of S&W's production was going to either British or U.S. military contracts as we edged closer to World War Two. At this point simply getting a gun took pull. With few exceptions the military revolvers had lanyards. That being the case I suspect the frame was pulled from inventory that was targeted toward one of the above mentioned military contracts. The question is why, and for whom?

I think your gun was made in middle-latter 1941, and by that time Uncle Sam was pretty much dictating where S&W's revolvers would go.

I believe you will find that it either went to a defense plant or police department - or something related. Roy Jinks would know - or could find out.

Malamute, was easier than I thought. I went into Photo Plus 4, simply cut the bottom part off the picture. Glad you mentioned it.

Taurus .44 mag

I have a 6 year old Taurus .44 mag. Most of the time it only fires every other round, for whatever reason. The primers are not hit when it misfires. I keep pulling the trigger and eventually I can get all shells to fire. What the heck is the deal? Is this a common problem with this gun? I don't have an address to send it back to the company for warranty repair. If someone has that, please send it to me.
Thanks,

This thread is over two years old. You might be better off starting a new one particular to you.

Please forgive me for changing the subject. This is my first attempt at this so bare with me. I have a 6 year old Taurus .44 mag.
