Old school snake shot in .357

Thanks, but I don't even remember what year it was that I submitted the article. It was only about a paragraph long after they edited it, and it's really no big deal. I had cut it out of the magazine and the last time I saw it was about 21 years ago when I moved to Oregon. It's buried in a box somewhere in my garage/shop I'm sure.

Never seen the point of snakeshot outside of extremely rare circumstances. If you are close enough to use snakeshot, you ought to be close enough to put a normal bullet through its head unless you're an awful marksman.

I disagree, snakes don't always stay still especially when striking. I guess bird shot is not necessary close up on turkey either with that line of thinking. Angry snakes make me concerned and slightly nervous. I like snakes but not when they are angry lol.

If a snake is striking at you, your next move would be much better spent jumping back than trying to draw. If you're truly within striking distance you're likely to lose the quickdraw game.

You're likely to lose the jumping back game too.

Years ago, I used to do a lot of pond bass fishing in hip boots or waders.

I'm here to tell you it's comforting to have a .38 loaded with shot when a black water snake decides to get in your boots with you, and won't take no for an answer!!

You can pop them between your legs without risking a bullet in the foot.

Also had a timber rattler try his level best to crawl over the transom and board my fishing boat.

Beating him off with a fishing rod wasn't working.

Snake shot did though!!

Who the heck said anything about a quick draw game or any game at all? Trying to hit a snake with a normal bullet is the game, snake shot us the answer. I can see you have never been in the, woods with snakes or you wouldn't be saying these things, wow. Games? Uncalled for!

Snake shot is the way to go vs a bullet. It gives you a distinct edge. Hitting a snake with a bullet isn't easy, even if they cooperate and hold perfectly still, which they won't. Snake shot is for before the snake gets into striking distance. You will not out jump or outdraw a snake strike. That only happens in the movies. :)

Haha, yep Archangel, you pegged it. Never been in the woods. Except for several thousand miles of hiking.

Also have and have seen folks jump back from strikes successfully, whereas even a practiced shot takes about a second to draw and fire when ready and anticipating it.

I thought I was pretty average, didn't realize I had Hollywood speed. Nor my old hiking partner, granted he's faster than me in all respects.

You are approaching the Troll zone right about now. This is a discussion forum, not a place for you to argue with everyone and be hostile. You claim snake shot is all but useless yet no one here agrees with you. Maybe you might want to revisit that opinion.

If you read through this exchange, you've personally done the most to escalate it. I didn't say it is useless, I said that I had never seen the point of it. That's a position based on my experience. Which you then randomly attacked and decided I'd never been in the woods for whatever reason and got really bent out of shape about the word "game" for some reason which I don't even begin to understand. Maybe try stepping back and cooling off.

Well, we can't seem to get along, and Siggy has already decided what he is going to do with the rounds. :)
