I've found a deal on a 10 year old Colt, but I don't know much about them. I've read that some of their parts are not "mil spec" and are therefore not interchangeable with the rest of the AR world. I've heard that the pin pattern on the uppers and lowers does not match up with others, so their uppers and lowers can't be swapped with non-Colts.

What about furniture? Are the buttstocks, forearms, etc. "standard"? The model of the one I'm looking at is: 6700, A3 HBAR

Thanks for any info -

The only difference between some of the older Colts and the newer ones is the takedown Pin size and the trigger and hammer Pins. Neither really make much difference but some people prefer the standard sizes.

Yeah, that's what I thought... except then every once in a while there will be a thread like THIS one (on THR), where someone is discussing why their Bushmaster hand guards won't fit on their Colt, and someone on the thread mentioned that some of the rail makers (MI) specify different part number for Colts -- indicating that there are some differences in other components.

Hey thats my old thread. I have an older Colt obviously and have found out that all the parts other than the pin sizes seem to be milspec. I have read that they make an adapter to put small pin new uppers on older big pin lowers, but I have never seen them. I would like to find some so I can buy a nice accurate rifle upper.

It has to be a REALY old Colt for the pin to be an issue.

I have an SP1 Colt (1975 vintage) and the pin size is the same size.

If one needs this Off-set pin, Brownells sells it.
