I think I broke my 450 Lubricator the other night. The stem that controls the amount of lube that comes out, came completely out of the machine, I did have Red Angel hard lube in it, but I did have the heater on it turned on, but it started to get really hard to turn, and I believe I forced it.

I've got a newer model (orange in color) 450 Lubricator, one with the soft lube, SPG in it, however my question is will Lyman repair the older model that is grey in color, or can I repair it myself somehow. Would like to know how to get that hard lube out of the older machine also.

I was about to cast some 240grn .430 caliber bullets for my .44SPL and was planning on using the hard lube. Any comments on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

If I am not mistaken... the rod has a "head" on it that comes up thru the bottom .... most likely you have pulled the bolt all the way through ... A quick fix is to weld a washer to the head ... you will have to space the sizer up off the bench by the same amount as the washer...

Reckon I placed two questions on the same subject, don't know how that happened, anyway after I boiled out the Red Angel hard lube I saw what I did, exactly what JimKIrk stated, BTW I did E-mail Lyman and asked if they could repair it at a reasonable cost, will wait and see what they tell me. Thanks for the replies. My son is a very capable welder, so I'll also check with him and see if he can fix it.

cfullgraf, BTW I just looked up the http://castboolits.gunloads.com and it looks like what happened to mine, however mine is gray in color, perhaps they will have just the ticket for me to repair it. No problem inletting my bench to install it, as I had to place my other one on the metal heating pad.

If you didn't mess up the bevel in the casting ... the bolt can be purchased or could at one time ...
But if you son can build up the head and regrind the bevel ....it will work as good as new ...

Warm up that hard lube before you begin...
..

I went ahead and boiled the hard lube out of the body of the 450 so it shouldn't need any heat, it is pretty clean at this point, I'll wait and see if Lyman gets back in touch with me, and perhaps they will send me the part I need if at all possible that is, I'll get a picture of it as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for the response.

Incidentally, I got a reply from Lyman this afternoon, they offered to fix mine for $100.00, or give me an upgrade, needless to say I took the upgrade, great people to work with btw.

Just pulled the bolt thru, I do believe my son can weld that part back in, and I'll only use it with the soft lubes such as SPG and Alox.
