The Washington-based manufacturer of AR-15 type rifles and semiautomatic pistols – announced Tuesday that because of legislation passed recently in the state of New York, the company “will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York.”

Olympic joins other companies that have recently cut off business to various state agencies due to the adoption of firearms regulations.

....

Olympic Arms today took the strategy one step farther, inviting “all firearms manufacturers, distributors and firearms dealers to join us in this action to refuse to do business with the State of New York. We must stand together, or we shall surely fall divided.”

The industry speaks back, with action.

Government disarms citizens? Gun manufacturers, dealers, and distributors are going to disarm the Government.

I never expected free enterprise to be one of the keynotes of our fight for our rights.

Obama will just mandate that companies sell to the government and LEO agencies, and force them to work.

I thought that is against the Bill of Rights, EBK.

The Government could build their own arms factories, obviously, they did that with ammo, right? (Lake City)

If they do, lets hope that Obama and Congress run it. If they do it like they run the rest of Government they will be out of stock, with no product, or a product that doesn't work, and the rest of us will be fine. :neener:

oh the irony of that possibility...
people with guns surrounding gun factories forcing people to make guns.

at that point does he go from president to dictator?

Delighted to see this take place

I humbly admit this was one of my ideas. I also posted it on The High Road as a proposal to help us in NY from other states as well as proposed it to members of my gun club, where it was well recieved. I have also written and e-mailed many manufacturer's as have members of my club. I must thank Mark LaRue, LaRue Tactical was one of the first companies I e-mailed.

For those who are skeptical of how and why this works, let me illustrate. I can only say I have more than passing familiarity with LE weapons and training in NY. At this time, I cannot say how. Two of the most popular LE firearms are AR-15's of most types and Glock handguns. Both are severely regulated under the Steal All Firearms Egregiously (SAFE) act. This becomes and advantage, as most LEO's are trained and only authorized to use the Glock for a handgun and AR for patrol carbine.

Now, if we in NY can get Glock and potentially Colt LE (S&W may not need additional convincing, they know what a poltroon Criminal Cuomo is) on board with the conviction of LaRue Tactical and Olymipic. essentially NY LEO's will be deprived of the firearms they were trained with. Now, they will find out what we already know, that firearms are fairly durable; however, a shiny new black gun will not be in the works every 5 years. Too, too bad.

The option is to stand with us in support, not disdain, for our 2A rights. Use the bully pulpit of your Union to repeal the Steal All Firearms Egregiously act. Or you may be left with a very few choices (not bad ones either) like a 1911 full size (holds 7 rounds in 45 ACP) or subcompact 9mm for concealment (7 rounds again) or 357 wheelguns (still has a top 1 shot stop rating). And, hey, look, the officers in CA hunting Dorner are using Ruger Mini-14's. The 5 round magazine allows for a more comfortable traditional offhand and prone hold than the riduculously long 20 rounder.

Like I say, what is good for us, is good for you. Get used to it.

Couldnt NY just buy from another LEA that the mfg's still sell to?

(edit to add: I applaud their actions and convictions)

LOL, well NY and Chicago proposed hurting gun manufacturers by divesting their pension plans that were invested in firearms companies and "persuading" banks to not loan to gun manufacturers. So it's only fair that firearms manufacturers fight back.

The only issue is that so far it's been manufacturers that frankly have little effect on government agencies. I don't think many PDs buy Olympic Arms or LaRue. The sentiment is certainly appreciated and they got the right idea but it ain't cuttin' it. Get Colt, S&W and Glock to follow suit and then NY, IL, and DC will be seriously concerned.

Sorry, Olympic Arms. Too little too late.

Smith was the FIRST to sell us out, way back in 1968. they WANTED the ban on re-imported Smiths that went overseas for the WW's. they have supported so called Saturday Night Special laws, and they went whole hog for the Clinton cop deal. Our blacklisting of Smith then cost them 2 of their 3 manufacturing plants, and they had to sell out to some British outfire, for 20c on the $ or so I gather?

So we're going to hold a grudge against a company that's fighting for our rights NOW because of something they did 30 years ago under entirely different management? Sort of like complaining of Ruger's support of the 94 AWB. Bill Ruger is DEAD, the company turned completely around. GET OVER IT.

Why do people boycott these companies? To get them to change their minds? So what happens when they do? Just keep boycotting them?
Teaching someone a lesson involves punishment for bad behavior and rewrd for good behavior. Punishment all the time for everything is just stupid.

While I think this is fantastic, I do worry that one short sighted little company would see a banding-together by suppliers as an easy way to corner the market and make quick short term profits.
Remortgage the house, buy a load of AR's and sell them to the PD's that the manufacturers spurn.

i applaud their stance, but

gov will send buyers across state line to get what they "need" ....

just like rosie has armed guards

liberal hypocrisy, nothing new

Not to mention there are police who build rifles for their friends. Some of whom have FFL's.

There's kinks in the plan, sure, but overall ... it will have an impact if it gets broad industry support. At the VERY least it will send a message to the State Government, and (ideally) get some media attention as well.

What would get MORE done, is if commercial ammunition manufacturers quit selling their ammunition to the state. That has even more serious public safety issues though, so it's thin ice. I'm not sure if I'm ready to cross the line to the point we're hurting cops which can't get practical training to do their job..

We need to keep the pressure on.
Refuse to sell to NY. Then refuse to sell to anyone that sells or transfers to NY.
When NYPD sends someone to buy from 'civilian' shops or out of state as a civilian to buy for NYPD, prosecute them for the straw sales and for bringing 'illegal' magazines into the state.
By the people, subject to the people.

There will always be some greedy distributor who will sell them all and any guns they want

Then the rest of the marketplace would need to band together to see to it that NY LE remain said distributor's only customers, and pressure the makers to cut them off (not that, say, LaRue would need any pressuring).

What's this stupid boycott supposed to accomplish again? Other than getting brownie points from people that buy their products?

Why weren't these companies boycotting CA and NY to begin with when they enacted a state-level AWB, along with a dozen other states? Why are these companies servicing Chicago? Is it because NY's current AWB is more restrictive than the last AWB?

Does that make the last AWB okay because it wasn't severe enough?

But they wont, those are big fat contracts. And better idea, get the ammo manufacturers to cut them off.

Here are the 2011 manufacturing numbers from the ATF. Look up your favorite companies. Look at their volume. Let me know which ones can afford to pick and choose their relatively niche market, and which ones are out to make bank.

Olympic Arms only made 5044 ARs in 2011.
Austin Precision Products Inc (LaRue) made 1536 ARs.

Now look up the number of guns that Colt, S&W, Glock, and Remington are pumping out.

LaRue is also noteworthy, however, for high quality peripherals (scope mounts, etc). Restricting sales to insurrectionist states and municipalities could cause a slight bit of pain to the places so inconvenienced. It also has a certain discrediting aspect to it to have a scrappy, smaller company with a reputation for making some of the best stuff on the market tell Cuomo and his insurgent, anti-Constitutionalist running-dog lackeys what they can do with their money.

Olympic Arms? Do they have any contracts with NY state agencies or NYPD? Seems kind of purely symbolic to me. Not that there is anything wrong with symbolic gestures.

Obama will just mandate that companies sell to the government and LEO agencies, and force them to work.

He won't even have to do that. He just has to dangle a fat government contract out there and companies that are run inline with current standards of corporate ethics will trip all over themselves to oblige.

And of course, even if every firearms manufacturer in the US (and ammo, too) cut off NYS cold turkey, I'm willing to bet the current administration in the White House would just make some sweetheart deal with New York to supply them with guns and whatever else they require at or below market value. Since the .mil is about to get downsized in a big way, they could probably just offload surplus M4s and M9s on New York for free.
