On Gaurd at the ATM

You did the right thing. I would have done the same. Actually, being a woman, I would have made a scene had a man approached me in a parking lot at an ATM.

I have the type of face that makes babies cry from 40 paces and grown men cross the street to go by me, and I really am a pussy-cat (with a .44), I take personal security very seriously but "know" "they" are more scared of me (I look like an ugly Beaford Pusser and he was no beauty queen to start with :). Tonight I used the ATM to pay some guys that did work on my house, took my friend Cheryl with because she wanted to discuss "stuff" with me and this was the only open time I had for her, as I am using the ATM I notice she has stopped talking and has her back to mine watching my "6", and I never asked. I just thanked her for her courtesy and she was surprised that I noticed. Too bad I only like her as a pal and not as a S.O

Seems to that maybe you open your eyes a little more and explore the possibilies with this one. Its ben my expieriance that most women, and even some men, are oblivious to what goes on around them......Disclaimer:::::I am not bashing, just been my past/current expieriance.......

I have to use ATMs quite a bit. 18 wheelers are tricky to get in to the average bank branch parking lot. But, I generally use the ones inside a convenience store, rather than one outdoors.

One particular ATM machine, that was in the front of a bank, located in a reasonably nice shopping center was the focal point of no less than 14 armed robberies...2 of which were also homicides! After the second homicide/robbery, the bank removed the ATM.

There have been several high-tech ATM scams. One that stands out the most is the hidden camera that the thieves can set up temporarily, then remove it before anyone gets wise. The hidden camera shows your entire transaction, including the numbers/digits on your card AND the "PIN" number that you punch in. The plastic cards are fairly easy to duplicate, and since they also have your "PIN" number, they can make their OWN withdrawal at a later date! I've heard that most of the thieves that have used this type of scam will personally monitor the transaction on a small TV-type system that the wireless camera sends to, usually in their car that is parked near the ATM, but other thieves have been known to record several transactions before removing their hidden cameras. The cameras are so small that they may go unnoticed, but they're hooked up to a very high-resolution system! Oh, and I've also heard that some "camera" thieves have been bold enough to install their remote cameras to monitor IN-STORE ATM's!

I would never use an atm at night. It's bad enough during the day, but at night, no way. I knew a guy that used his atm and next thing he had a gun pointed at him. He had balls cause he pulled his pistol and shot the dude thru both hands. They later found him at the er and found his gun (air gun) in the bushes.
