I went to the Tennessee Clay Target Complex ( Sat. 19,Nov.) and tried my first round of Sporting Clays. It was the most fun I've had in years! Both of my sons went, too. None of us burned the course up but we had a great time, broke a few clays. had a few laughs and spent two hours together! We were useing our duck hunting guns and trying to see a better range of angles than we get on our thrower...it was exactly what we needed! Showed me what needed work. It proved I've been myoptic with my shooting...too much pistol and almost no shotgun and only a little rifle.
If you havent tried it...GO! If you've only been shooting skeet or trap...try sporting! By the way...just for record...I only broke 64 of 100. But I'm only in competion with myself. I'll try to beat that next time!

Thats great glad you and your sons enjoyed, that time is priceless
and it is alot of fun

Time spent blasting stuff with family is pure gold.

Don't worry about the scores,BA/UU/R and watch them improve. Then watch your duck hits ratio improve also. Sporting is great fun and great practice, especially if you....

Do the shots from low gun.

Take off the safety every shot.

Wear your hunting togs.

HTH....

Hi guys.
Larry...that 86 was probably hard to do on a course designed for competion. Also, the leaves have dropped now so we could see targets long before you could just a few weeks ago. There is much work to be done on my shotgun akills...but I don't mind...really,I don't. :D
Dave...I've already bought some more ammo. Ready to go! I did most of your tips. I start with butt of gun about belt level...safty came off just as I called for target,(next time I'll remove safty as gun comes up), I did wear part of the hunting garb but it started out a little warmer than I expected for Nov. I did use the same gun...Benelli Nova. Needed trigger time on it.
Y'all have fun!
Maek.

Picture big old man smiling like Buddha.....

Good!! You have the idea. Getting better with shotguns is fun.

Larry, that's one of the things that keeps SC from being perfect practice for hunting. No one is going to make that shot on a live rabbit. Same with that Jumping Teal stuff, though that's just a misnomer, no Teal ever catapaults up like that. All the Teal I've missed passed horizontally at slightly under Mach 1.

I got photos back today of the clays shoot. Two of them show shells ejected...in one the shell is still in the port. Surprised me to catch that. My youngest (28) was shooting in that one.
