ONE GUN for the rest of your life

I figured it out. An AR a few different uppers, 22LR upper, .410 shot shell upper, etc etc, You get the idea.

You really think 5.45x39 is going to be easy to get in a SHTF situation? You been watching Red Dawn too many times.

No, I think it will be easy and cheap to stock up on it before the SHTF. 5.45x39 can be had for as little as $.15/round, sold in 1,080 round cans.

One gun only? A drilling. 2 tubes 3 1/2" 12 gauge and 1 tube 7x57 Mauser. Not very tacticool but it'll put food on the table a whole lot better.

My bug out kit has 3 weapons and I can't see less for SHTF situations. A pencil barrel AR15, a Remington 870 12 gauge in back-pack mounted sleeve. My back-pack waste belt has my series 70 Combat Commander 45. I'll carry all the ammo I can, I know I can live off the land but my weapons can't, so 10x20 rd AR mags, 4x45 mags with 1 extra box 230 grn hardball, 1x25rd box 1oz slugs,1x25 rd box 00 buck, 1x25 rd box #4 shot.
I'd really like a 22 lr of some kind but with basic's the above is about 80 lbs.
I know this doesn't answer the OP's original question but I beleave its unrealistic unless it's an unplaned bugout and I DO plan. I spent lots of time on this particular plan since I saw a movie called Red Dawn.

The question as clarified is just one LONGgun.

That's the role of the DPMS LR-260L 18", .260 Rem

However, not far behind is the 3-bbl drilling of:

-12 ga
-.280 rem
-.223 rem, with subcaliber chamber inserts for .22lr & .22 mag.

Decisions.....decisions........savage weather warrior .223,ease of ammo availibility, bolt reliability ,light and accurate,if i needed an auto i am sure it would allow me to secure one.
