If things got so bad that one could only be able to have one gun I think that would finally override everything else and I'd move
Otherwise, I'd take advantage of the loophole. Many people don't want guns. I wonder how much I'd have to pay my anti-gun parents, brother, cousins and aunts and uncles to officially own some of my guns? Maybe some of my neutral non-gun owning friends and family would be better.
OK, in keeping with the spirit of your question...
I am not a hunter, I don't live in a CCW state (but I may move, or somehow MD may come around), for me guns are for fun and for home protction (plus carry when I move).
If I still think I'll end up in a CCW state I'd keep a 3" or 4" K-frame .357. Cheap .38spl practice ammo (when I don't feel like reloading), I have all I need to reload both .38 and .357, mild recoil and noise for training new shooters with .38s, good .38+P and .357mag defensive ammo, flamethrower .357 powerhouses when that is what you want...Can't beat the versatility of a .357mag. A 3" K-frame is perfectly balanced, conceals easily, is big enough to be quite comfortable, has a long enough sight radius for easy accuracy...A 4" doesn't give up that much, isn't quite as nice but close. This is doubly versatile for those of you who hunt.
Honorable mention, a nice 1911 but it just isn't as versatile.
If I'm not in a CCW state it is between:
-a 3" or 4" K-frame .357mag
-a Winchester 94 in a revolver caliber (.357mag would be nice, I also like my .45LC quite a bit)
-an AR- cheap ammo, usable for HD, switch out the uppers for extra versatility
-a 12ga pump
