Last night heard the motion detector where the chicken are going crazy. Looked out to find a few masked bandits who live here and one huge one was trying to get under the fence. As soon as I stepped out they took off but the largest one did not move fast or far. As soon as he got away from the vehicles out there I opened up on him with a .30 Hatsan select fire. Looked by the laser like all 16 nailed him just as he was going into some heavy brush. Did a quick look but in slippers did not feel like hunting much. This morning went to walk one of the dogs and she went heavy to that brush and sure enough there he was. For years the critters have been around here but have left chickens alone so its been live and let live. This time one decided those hens looked like a good meal so I had to object. Little rifle did a great job.

That's a good sized bandit.
Tell us more about the Hatsun!
Select fire?
They started making them quite a while back. I just found out about them a year or so ago by accident. They are PRICEY for an air gun but, a ton of damn fun. My original justification was the Coyotes that come here to hunt. Feed wild rabbits to keep them away from the chickens. Couple times one got too close and I shot them with a paintball marker and a .22 PCP just to get the point across. I was leery of using anything heavier like a 9mm rifle to kill as it would have neighbors calling 911. Those "Quiet" .22 rounds CCI makes would work here but I was worried about wounding one of the damn things. So bought the Hatsan in .30. It does not really sound like gun fire from distance so no one should get uptight and so far no one seems to. They use 16 and 32 round mags so you can burn through a lot of ammo easy having fun with them. Bought a bullet trap made for .22's to catch the lead. When enough builds up will take it to scrap yard to offset the cost of ammo. Their price point will keep a lot of people from getting one but, the damn thing is one hell of a lot of fun and this time even earned its keep. The bandit was about 75 feet away when I let him have it and he died about 1 foot from where he was when I shot him so it make a quick humane kill without anyone calling 911 in the middle of the night.
Pic is how it came factory. I took the rail off added a scope and laser to make it easier on my aging eye's
