One Piece vs. Two Piece Free Float Rail

I was looking through the Midwest Industries site and noticed they have two types of free float hand guard rails for AR15's. They have two piece and one piece models they call "T" series.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? Which one is more poplar and why? Which would you recomend?

well with the one piece you have to cut your front sight base off to get it on if you don't have a low profile gasblock.

I'd guess the advantage is it'd be one piece of metal and potentially more solid then the two piece.

personally i have a daniel defense omega (two piece) because i wanted to keep my front sight base....seems super solid to me.

Thanks for the response... was wondering if I was going to get any. So you'd actually have to cut off the front sigh for the one piece?? I figured you could just tap the pins out and put them back in when you have the rail in place... not that I've ever tried it. Any insight?

Correct, you only need to remove the FSB by tapping out the pins to mount a one piece rail. Once mounted you can re-mount the FSB or a flat top gas block if you like. I highly recommend the Daniel Defense Omega Rail because it's easy to install and mounts up solid!

Hmmmm.... not so.... As noted, you can remove the sight and replace it... or, you can remove the barrel and replace it (you should probably use a torque wrench and armorers wrench for this procedure)... but either one is relatively easy for anyone with good mechanical skills.... if you can cut off a sight and clean it up to look nice, you can certainly tackle either of these tasks with the right tools... (an armorers wrench is pretty cheap and readily available, probably from whoever is selling the rails)

I went one piece because it is much more solid in my opinion....
