Voted .30-06

Awesome cartridge, huge selection of bullet weights and designs to choose from.

.270 Winchester, 130 grain bullet -- preferably Nosler Partition or Barnes TSX bullet (handloads, of course!).

.22lr! how has nobody said this yet! for me its just personal preferance, but shooting tree rats with a .22 is my favorite type of hunting!

hah, yeah, a .22 is only suited for small game. But then again, I dont regularly hunt deer, or anything bigger. If i were to choose the last round to be used by every hunter everywhere it would have to be a 30-06.

However, i know that shotguns arent a part of this thread, but a 12 gauge has to be one of the most versatile hunting tools ever devised!

270 win. is my favorite but i have been known to dabble in the 7mm Mag and 30-06 arena as well:cool:

for my hunting, i take more than enough gun. either a 45/70, or a 300 win mag. tracking is hard on me, dragging, is downright brutal. so i tend to hunt where i can get a vehicle to the animal after i shoot it. if i have to chase it 50-300 *****, and cant get either the truck, or atv (most places here they are not legal to use) to it, i am in trouble.

Thank goodness I’m not stuck with just one. Some in your list, I don’t look at as deer rounds but the .22lr has killed its fare share of deer, just not by me. I use different rifles for specific situations or environments. For example if I am hunting a stand and can have a shot at 600-700 yards I wouldn’t bother bringing my 45-70 along. If I’m hunting deep woods a 26” “super duper ultra” with a 20-60X100 scope on it would also be a bad choice.

If I were going to make a “Swiss army” rifle it would be something more powerful, flatter shooting, lighter weight and much less pleasant to shoot than what I use 95% of the time.

How can you have a deer rifle poll with no 30/30 and 270?

Poll should have said, 30/30 or 243 or 270 or 30/06. Of course the right answer would be 270!

The .270 is the bastard child of .30-06. The only thing a .270 has in regards to a .30-06 is an inferiority complex..;):D

The .30-06 will forever be the .270's daddy.:)

257 Roberts is the best game rifle for North American hunting there is. Varmints to Elk.

.243 because of my location. If we had bigger deer or bigger animals I would pick .308.

If I only get one I have to go with a 30/06, but then again I have 10 different deer rifles because I like variety.
