On a day when storms are threatening a good bit of the country, this may be good for a few chuckles.Dumb Laws throughout the U.S.
New Jersey is the lead off batter.Don't frown at a cop or delay a homing pigeon!:D

Dumb Laws in New Jersey:
Drivers must warn those who they pass on highways before they do so.
Spray paint may not be sold without a posted sign warning juveniles of the penalty for creating graffiti.
Handcuffs may not be sold to minors.
It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder.
One must yield a phone line to a person if it is an emergency.
All motorists must honk before passing another car, bicyclist, skater, and even a skateboarder.
You cannot pump your own gas.
It is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season.
It is against the law to “frown” at a police officer.
In an attempt to “foster kindness” in the citizens of New Jersey, the month of May is designated “Kindness Awareness Month”.
If you have been convicted of driving while intoxicated, you may never again apply for personalized license plates.
The third Thursday of October is designated as “New Jersey Credit Union Day” and citizens of the state should observe the day with “appropriate activities and programs”.
Car dealerships are forbidden from opening on Sunday.
You may not slurp your soup.
Automobiles are not to pass horse drawn carriages on the street.
It is illegal to delay or detain a homing pigeon.

Start posting stupid firearms laws and this will be on topic and can stay open. Comments on laws about selling spraypaint aren't on topic.

Here's a dumb one from Alaska,Jeff:

While it is legal to shoot bears, waking a sleeping bear for the purpose of taking a photograph is prohibited.

Truly stupid from Arizona:

When being attacked by a criminal or burglar, you may only protect yourself with the same weapon that the other person posseses.

Unbeatable from the Cajun State:

It is illegal to rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol.

Maine brings us this gem;

Shotguns are required to be taken to church in the event of a Native American attack.

From Mass.:
All men must carry a rifle to church on Sunday. And then they say:
Hunting on Sundays is prohibited!

Montana says this is alright for you folks:

Seven or more Indians are considered a raiding or war party and it is legal to shoot them.

Nevada is cool here for dog lovers:

It’s still “legal” to hang someone for shooting your dog on your property.

North Dakota makes this helpful:

It is legal to shoot an Indian on horseback, provided you are in a covered wagon.

Pennsylvanians probably agree on this:

It is contrary to Pennsylvania law to discharge a gun, cannon, revolver or other explosive weapon at a wedding.

South Carolina.This sounds reasonable:

A permit must be obtained to fire a missile.

This seems extreme from South Dakota:

If there are more than 5 Native Americans on your property you may shoot them.

Tennessee has whales:

You can’t shoot any game other than whales from a moving automobile.

Texas.What about the 3rd story?

It is illegal for one to shoot a buffalo from the second story of a hotel.

Utah.Ruining all the fun:

It is illegal to detonate any nuclear weapon.

Virginia. They got it in for one animal:

No animal may be hunted for on Sunday with the exception of raccoons, which may be hunted until 2:00 AM.

Washington State covered all the bases here:

A law to reduce crime states: “It is mandatory for a motorist with criminal intentions to stop at the city limits and telephone the chief of police as he is entering the town."

Wyoming gives this:

Using a firearm to fish is strictly forbidden.

And finally not firearms but makes sense from New Mexico:

Idiots may not vote! And we we mean it!:D

Its not NJ; I think many states have laws that either make it an additional crime to wear body armor during the commission of a felony (especially one involving a firearm), or treat it as an aggrevating factor to increase the charge and penalty for the underlying crime.

First off: don't bash my state.

Secondly: the purpose of the law is so that if someone murders someone else and showed the foresight to buy and wear body armor, they can legally be penalized more. Gone are the times when murder means hanging.

Yea, it is NJ. You love to live here but you also hate it at the same times.

"Stupid is as stupid does", at least the politicians any way. Just think, if Obama gets in he'll make the whole country like NJ.

Well I read some place california has a law saying you can not shoot whales from a car with a rifle.........wow who did that?

local law Norfolk va has a law prohibiting cap and ball revolvers in a confession booth.........forgive me Father for I am sinning right now..........

That is, indeed, extreme.

The 7 in Montana seems much more reasonable.

(Apologies to any Native Americans who may be reading this.)

And some guy had the nerve to post "what do clergy carry" in the handgun section!

From another thread, you can't carry in an area of NC that is under a state of emergency.

You can't carry at schools other other areas likely to attract criminal acts such as bars, restaurants serving alcohol, banks, etc.

You can't carry into any location that charges admission.

NC's concealed carry law was pretty much written around existing stupid laws that criminals are going to ignore anyway.

You have to wait five days to buy a pistol after twice traveling to the sheriff's office to receive his blessing, or you have to pay to be fingerprinted like a criminal if you want to carry concealed which a criminal is going to do anyway without the fingerprinting.

Crossbows are restricted to the point that you can't buy one from Cabelas or Bass Pro through the mail.

(but at least sling shots are legal)

I agree. The dumbest ones of all are the ones most ingrained into our society.

Short barreled shotguns? WTH!?

Who thought that restriction up and why? It's absolute idiocy.

Have you ever been here here, sir?

Crunker,I have been to NJ.My father was born in Sussex,NJ and I love NJ physically. Can't speak for other folks.

Agree,NC is close to being the Mass. of the South. No disputing our guns laws are restrictive and need fixin'.

I was kind of talking to azhunter122, that's why I quoted his post.

I know. But I wanted you to know that many of us here love New Jersey, the land and the regular citizens.
So many social forces over the last 130 years have changed NJ from a champion of freedom to the liberal enclave it is today.
So many of my cousins, nephews and nieces and other relations live in the State that there is no one who wishes the tide to turn toward normalcy more than myself.
I love the Pinelands,Atlantic City,Cape May,Asbury Park, and High Point.
Someday the needle will swing in the other direction and we'll
get that freedom loving NJ back.Keep the faith.:)
