oops! 7.65 Argentine ammo in a type 99 arisaka !!!

I have a 1891 Argentine Mauser and reload for it occasionally. PPU seems to have removed the need for that. I was impressed with the similarity to the .303 British; the same weight and diameter bullet at the same velocity. But with a rimless (vice rimmed or flanged) case.
From other readings regarding historic accounts of cartridge development, the 7.7 Arisaka is much a practical honoring of the .303 British round as the Brits had a lot of influence on Japan in the 'days of exploration'.

I am surprised the Argentine round fit and fired without hiccup. (I've never compared the schematics, they are obviously similar.) I am not surprised nothing untoward happened.

I have since discovered that it is possible to drop a 7.65 Argentine round in the chamber and close the bolt. The round is then sitting in the chamber in front of the extractor. Fortunately, the firing pin cannot reach the primer and nothing happens when one pulls the trigger.

Firing ammunition of the wrong caliber in an Arisaka is not good practice. I did it inadvertently and discovered that it is possible to fire three different calibers ( 308, 300 Savage and 7.65 Argentine ) but it is not something I intend to do except in an emergency.
