Well, I was browsing the local gun shop yesterday
when I came across a 1976 6" nickel python in "minty" condition as my friendly dealer put it. It had been fired, but looks like new and the action feels super. This shop gives you a test target, fired at 25', and its one tight cluster. He let me fire it to feel how it shoots, and its is spectacular in the hand. Of course, even though I just bought a Les Baer premierII 1.5, and am totally broke, I took it!! I really have a bad addiction, but I can't help myself. One question I have for Dfariswheel, or someone else, what do you think about sending it back to colt for the once over and any tuning? I get a one year guarantee from the store, but for a few dollars Colt, whom I called to get the date of manufacture, said they will clean and look it over for $56.00, more if work needs to be done of course. By the way, since I am a customer the gun sold for $950, a lot of money but the S&W's just don't feel or fire the same to me.

I did see a S&W at the range I shoot at, a 4" model 19 in very good shape, for $300. The gun looks to have been fired very little, but to be picky, the blue shows wear making it about 90%. The dealer said his smith would reblue, clean and check it for $75. I did see another gun the guy reblued and it look very good, not as good as a S&W factory job, but I could sent it back I guess to get reblued. It is in great condition, no gas cutting on the top strap, and it has the target action. I know its sick to buy another and run the card up again, but what do you think? By the way, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO weak.

As a fellow Python lover all I can say is congrats. And I'd have to agree with you. After owning a python I haven't found a revolver I like nearly as much. I love and care for mine as I'm sure you do.

Hi EghtySx,

I oil and wipe them down every week or two, even though my wife thinks I'm nuts and in need of help. I just picked the new one up today, you need to get a purchase document here in NY which I did yesterday, and then I promptly cut up my credit cards so I can't do any more damage. After that I went to the range and shot a couple of hundred rounds which was a total blast, I love Colts. With 3 blued Colts, one nickel now, and a nickel trooper V, I'm done for the year!! And thats not counting my 1911's, 9mm Glock, and ruger pistol and target 10/22. This is one expensive hobby but I love shooting and collecting plus my weekly trips to the range are my pleasure in life.

I can see you have no willpower whatsoever! You're going to have to learn more self control. This impulse buying just has to stop. Have you thought about possibly a 12 step program? What in the world are you going to do with that many handguns? Dr. wundudnee :neener: ;)

Wow wundudnee, that is some georgous collection. They are too pretty to shoot, do you use any of them? Beautiful guns like those are a work of art, literally. Plenty of people collect paintings, we collect guns, they are equally appreciated and admired. Enjoy them always.

"DO they all get shot" I always said that I wouldn't have a gun that I wouldn't shoot, but I'm waffeling right now. The top revolver on the right is a new 1952 pre model 36 that I think is new. I just got it and I haven't shot it "yet". I have shot every thing else, including the first model hand ejector and my one and only Colt, the 4" .38 Diamondback. The ones that I enjoy most is the S&W 27-2 and the S&W model of 1950 .45acp.

Hi Monkeyleg,

I live in Long Island, New York and everything is so expensive, even the guns. The Colt pythons here fly off the shelves so fast, if you can find one, the high demand causes a higher price. The gun was in mint condition, and the store gives a 1 year guarantee and they have been around for over 35 years. Its either pay the piper, or buy blind on the auctions or gunsamerica. I have a cousin in Texas and he tells me the same gun can be had for $700 or $800 down there, but I also don't have to worry if I get it home and something is wrong as all repairs are covered.

Hello Standing Wolf,

How've you been? I was at the range today enjoying the heck out of the new python, I can shoot so well with it it amazes me. As to sending it back to Colt for a tune-up, I was talking to a few of the regular shooters there and they all kinda felt "if it ain't broke don't fix it". And its 50/50 if Colt will do a good job anyway, as their experience wasn't all that positive. But man I was shooting such good groups all the way to the maximun 50' at this indoor range. I shoot a lot of 1911's too and I don't know if its the gun or the lighter load, but I can hit small spots on the target really well. Only downside is cleaning the nickel finish, it seems like breakfree is the best at getting the residue off the frame and cylinders. You take care and I'll keep giving wayward Pythons a good home. :D
