I just moved to washington state and with the nicer weather arriving (except for today, but it is washington.....) and with it plans to fish/hike/scout etc., I was wondering what the state laws were for open carry. This includes the state parks.

Thanks for the help.

Open carry is not expressly forbidden, but it is unclear. The law states that you cannot carry in a way that warrants alarm. Now if there was ever a law open to interpretation, that is one. Wether or not you will be harassed depends on where in the state you are. In rural areas you will probably fair better. In Seattle and the other cities, not so well.

On the other hand, Washington has a very fortunate law that says you DO NOT NEED a permit to carry concealed if you are in route to, in route from, or actively participating in a legitimate outdoor activity. Not too bad. Getting your permit is easy though, and allows you to buy handguns without waiting the usual week.

Hope that helps. Welcome to Washington!

I don't know about the regs are for state parks.

Concealed carry in state parks is OK. The only place you cannot carry concealed in the public outdoors is in National Parks (not to be confused with National Forests, which are OK too).

WA is a "shall issue" state for a CPL permit. Head to the local Sheriff's office or local PD and fill the form out. Wait a couple of weeks and pay the $65 and you will have your permit.

I probably should have clarified that i was just talking about out in the woods, etc. and not in rural areas.

That's good to know.

I know i should but there is a chance that i'll be moving again within a few months. Besides the fact that I'm gone half the time anyway, and the other half is going to be spent out in the woods.

Thanks for the help.

You cannot carry in places where the primary purpose is to sell alcohol for consumption at the place in question. So grocery stores are just fine. Restaraunts are fine. Pubs are fine if you are ordering food and not sitting at the bar. Night clubs and bars are out.
