opinion on FN Hi-Power or SA XD9

Definitely the Hi-Power. I've got a Browning Silver Chrome forty, Browning polished blue Standard forty, and an FN MkIII 9mm... each of these guns has been superb. Never any hammer bite for me. Never any failures of any kind. These guns just run right, straight out of the box.

The trigger.. yes, they're not very good right out of the box. But that's easily remedied... remove the mag disconnect and the trigger improves immensely... to a point where I could happily live with it as a defense gun without doing anything else.

That said, I have also experienced a Don Williams trigger job on both of my forties and they now approach that of a nice 1911 at 4.5# pull... very sweet indeed... EXCELLENT! And the work is not that expensive unless you decide to have a bunch of other stuff done, which I feel is completely unnecessary for myself. I popped some night sights on my standard forty myself and all Don did was a trigger job... these are superior weapons indeed; no wonder there are millions in service world wide and have been for many decades.

DHart,

How did you put the night sights on your HP? Did you use a punch or a sight pusher?

Also, what night sights did you install?

Thanks.

For the price of a sig, hk, or a lot of 1911s, you can have both.
If it is one over the other, Get the cdnn hi-power while they still have them.
I shoot both of these well with a slight edge going to the xd in group size. This is probably due to the sights, which I like better on the xd. Mechanical accuracy is probably too close to call. Both are good ergonomically with the hp having a better feel, but the xd seems to be more ergonomic in actual shooting.
The hi power is one of the best looking guns ever made (imo) and has great looks while the xd, at best, compares to Glock on esthetics. :D
