Anybody have any experience with Gun Kote finish on their firearm?
I need to refinish one of my handgun and considering the Gun Kote.
How do they look and hold up over time.

I used to use Gun Kote to refinish / touchup AR15 parts, and if done correctly (pre-heat parts, light passes, bake properly), it held up almost as well as the original annodizing.

I like it. I've used it on an S&W Model 10, CZ70, 1911, an AK, two FALs, and about a half dozen ARs (just the steel parts). I've even used it on some car parts. I'm planning on doing my CZ82 next.

It holds up very well (the FALs have heavy brass marks where the cartridges slam into the shell deflector on the receiver, but the finish is not chipped). If you can get the gun parkerized first, it's even better. The park acts as a primer and gives the Gunkote something to bite into. I've used their K-Phos instead of park though with good results. Either way, you need a rough surface. You need to sandblast it before the parkerizing or K-phos is applied.

Like any finish prep is the key. Correct any surface flaws, sandblast off the old finish, then degrease completely. Only handle the degreased parts with clean surgical gloves. If you don't prep it right is will come out like crap.

One of the nice things though is you can wash the finish off (before you bake it) with brake parts cleaner or acitone if you aren't happy with how it was applied. Once you bake it though, it's on for good.
