opinion on steel case ammo

I use steel in everything I shoot... Glocks, AKs, Saiga .308.... if a gun won't eat steel... it isn't worth keeping.

I won't go as far as to agree with this, but I do consider a rifle that won't shoot steel to have something wrong with it and will fix it. If I can't fix it, I may or may not keep it anyway.

I'm so glad that Hornady started selling steel-case ammo, so collectively the internet community (especially the .223 crowd) can begin to get over the "steel cases are cheap junk that will ruin your gun!!" idiocy.

Reloading steel is where it's at, haha.

It's simply less accurate ammo, usually made to a lower standard than brass cased. It won't change the inherent accuracy of your rifle any more than brass cased ammo. The steel case doesn't affect the bore in any way. If you shoot a ton of it, I'm sure it'll wear out the barrel, but so will the same amount of brass. Steel cased ammo is produced for shooting a lot on the cheap, not for match-grade accuracy. If it was produced to the same quality standards as some fancy supermatch ammo, I'm sure it would be just as accurate.
Hornady Steel Match. Match grade accuracy, steel case. I swear by this stuff, it's fantastic.

I have used it in my AK and when I had an SKS. I have also used it in my Beretta 92FS (9mm) , CZ82 and P64 (both 9mm Mak). I have never had any problems. Not all of it is dirtier, just the Tula and Wolf. As far as .308 (7.62 x 51), I have a DSA FAL. They claim steel cased ammo voids the warranty. I picked up a bunch of POF surplus and the beast eats it. I also bought some once-fired milsurp cases to reload. Not that I am worried about the warranty per say, I thought I would mention it because some manufacturers have the policy. The POF surplus was cheaper and shoots as well as the Wolf in my rifle.

Did you use lacquered rounds in the pistols? I've only used Brown Bear in my Cz82.

I haven't used it myself but my fellow AR shooters at the range have told me if its polymer coated it runs fine. I also clean after every range trip so dirty isn't an issue.
