Trying to debate whether I should buy the Beretta Elite II or the Sig P226ST in the 9mm. I know how the Beretta shoots, I've shot many, and own a few. I've never dealt with a Sig before, but they look very tempting, and I've heard a lot of good things, especially the stainless version. Yeah, I'm a stainless guy, most of my guns are ss. The question is, which one do I buy? Wish I could get them both, then I wouldn't have this issue, but unfortunately that's not a possibility. You really can't compare apples to oranges, but I would like to hear what everyone has to say about each or both. I've heard Sig is having some issues with their fit and finish lately, is that true or just a rumor? One thing going for the P226ST is the extra weight, I like some beef to my pistols. The downfall is, I think Sig triggers look out of place on the frame. They're not for concealment, so that's not an issue. Any thoughts or ideas, throw some this way. Thanks!

I have a lot of trigger time with both. It's hard to choose, IMO. I do notice the lower bore axis on the Beretta, though. In 9x19, it's virtually a ray gun -- less rotation when fired than the SIG, IMO.

At the end of the day, though, both are superb pistols. Hard to go wrong...

I've owned both Beretta and SIG pistols, (92FS Inox Vertec, 92 Steel I SA, P225, P226ST 9mm) and you can't go wrong either way. All are/were accurate and 100% reliable.
Having said that, I'd pick the P226ST due to it's greater weight (makes 9mm recoil almost non-existent). My P226ST was VERY accurate, and it's fit/finish was first rate. I did sell it though, because I have small hands and it just didn't fit my hand as well as I would have liked. (My 92 Steel I SA has been an excellent replacement for the P226St though).

I like SIG and am biased!!! :p ... having just recently got my 226 ST - and it rocks! Man, what a superb piece - it is now carry until summer clothing gets SP-101 back into play.

I have shot several Beretta's .. and liked them but - not as much as the SIG's I had tried. I do not know what the price differential is but - just have to say - the 226 is something else. I like heavy guns so no prob's with weight.

I just fitted CT's grips recently too ........ and now have some 17 round mags ... IDPA season he we come. Darn - I love this gun. :) I think you would too.

I have my 226 right next to me, and I compared the Sig and the Vertec, I went with the sig. I would highly recomend a Sig over a beretta. Nothing wrong with Beretta, (its just not a sig!)

Both are fine guns but Beretta works better for me due to the lower bore axis and shorter trigger reach. The Beretta also seem to have a better trigger.

The SIG is a great gun but it just doesn't fit me as well.

You really need to shoot the SIG so you can compare the two. You can probably rent a 226 or borrow one from someone just to see how it shoots.

If you can get the Beretta Elite II in all stainless, then go with that. Otherwise, go with the 226ST.

Wow...there are a lot of threads on this same topic that have been posted in the last few days...suggest you do a search/surf and read those other posts...especially on the reliability problems with the Beretta's locking block.

Sig. Period. I use my P226ST in 9mm, my P226ST in .40, my P220ST in .45, and my 1911's (Kimber and Springfield Armory) for USPSA/IPSC competition depending on what I feel like shooting that day. They are a real hoot. All my other pistols have either been sold or have been relegated to the back of the safe as occassional shooters.

Enjoy your Sig!

The locking block on Beretta 92s hasn't been an issue for some time. I use a 15 year old 92FS in IPSC/USPSA and as you can guess, it has many thousands of rounds through it, with the original block.
As others have said, shoot them both, then decide. If you take our word for it you may always wonder "what if".
If I weren't objective, I would go with my Beretta bias and say go with the Beretta. I'm not going to tell you that. Too many folks on these forums will tell you that you should use such and such because I do and it's the best.
They're both excellent. Go to a range where you can shoot them both and then decide.

I prefer the Berettas...I've owned 2 92fs' for many years and both have been ultra accurate & reliable. I owned a SIG once and never really liked it.

If you've already owned some Berettas then why not get a Sig just for some variety?

I have a 228 and absolutely love it.

A low bore axis is nice, but in all reality it doesn't make a significant difference, especially in 9mm.

I recently bought a .40 caliber beretta cougar with nite sights and two hicaps for $360 and am very happy with it. This pistol oozes quality and feels like it cost alot more than I paid for it. I prefer the beretta's lower bore axis to the sig's higher bore axis and to me the cougar fits my hand like a CZ75/Browning HI power which is alot better than a sig ever did. I've owned both berettas and sigs and prefer the beretta over the sig really theres no way you can go wrong with either.

I LOVE the Sig

I dont like the Beretta :D

The only advantage of the Beretta is that the Beretta is one of the most beautiful guns. But shooting it, well... I really didn't like it. And i tried multiple times to trick myself into liking it. Dont'cha just hate when that happens. Didn't work. No Beretta for me.

I used to own an Elite II Beretta, very nice gun. I don't think you can go very wrong there.
I changed to Sig because I can reach all the controlls without shifting my grip and I prefer the location of the slide release and decocker. I just never got used to the decocker on the slide on the Beretta. I thought the Elite II was an alloy frame? Getting old, memory slipping.
I shoot the standard P226 now and have a stainless on order. Looks like it's ESP in IDPA for me!

I like both very much.

Reliability wise, they seem pretty much equal to me.

Although for me, the Sigs are much easier to shoot for accuracy, and the Sig fit-and-finish IMO is nicer.

You really can't go wrong with either though, if you end up shooting the Beretta better go that route, otherwise so the Sig route. In other words, find a way to try both out and buy what works best for you.
