I have big hands, and I prefer heavier, larger frame guns with bigger grips because they simply fit me better, and I shoot more accurately with them. I had my heart set on a Sig Sauer P226, a gun that I absolutely love. But then today I came across a gorgeous stainless steel Beretta Brigadier, which also felt great to me. I've never shot with a Beretta though, and I know next to nothing about them. From a performance, reliability, and quality standpoint, is there any reason to choose one over the other? Both are 9mm.

Flip a coin.. they are pretty much on equal terms. Maneuvering the controls are really what will separate them out for you.

I own versions of both and prefer the 92 over the 226. With that said, ask ten other people and they will likely give you the opposite answer. :)

I'm a SIG kinda guy.
So I would go SIG.
They are very accurate and reliable.

But like Tarosean said.

Flip a coin.
The Beretta is accurate & reliable too.

The SIG de-cocker requires a little different manual of arms then the Beretta safety/de cocker.

It's more to do with which safety system you are most comfortable using.

tons of aftermarket both, both are incredibly reliable, very accurate, i think my kraut ancestry would tell me to go sig, but the smart part of me would say get whichever costs less and spend the rest in ammo because the difference between the two isnt worth more than $100 of added cost and the sig is what? $200 more than the beretta?

I prefer the P226 or the Beretta Brigadier Elite in .40 S&W over 9mm, my own P226 is a .40, and I put one of those Hogue rubber grips with the finger grooves on it to control the snappier recoil of the .40 S&W. I have a P228 that I like better than a 9mm P226.

However, there is a LNIB Beretta 96 Brigadier Elite pistol on Gunbroker that would get my vote here, since these are not being made any more, and this is probably the best .40 S&W pistol I've ever shot!

Can't go wrong with either, but I am a Beretta guy. Still, I would be tickled pink to have the SIG. I just prefer the 92 series.

Since no one can pick, I'd get the pretty Beretta Brigadier. Then sell some of your wife's jewelry and get a used P226 or a SIG 2022. That way you kinda have both!!!

Both are quality pistols. Brigadiers are harder to find.
Mags for the Beretta will be cheaper since there are tons of them on the surplus market.

Slide is thicker on the Brig so holsters may be tougher to find for it, not sure a std 92 holster will fit it.

There is only one clear solution.
Get both and let em duke it out on the range. Your favorite will emerge and you can sell off the one that places second," or keep it ".

Education cost money, one way or another you'll end up paying tuition.

come to think of it, even if they were priced the same id still rather have the beretta, i like its design, its styling, etc more than i do sigs to be completely honest

Both great. I prefer the SIG but you can fall in love with either. My 226 is about 25% more accurate than my beretta with nearly all ammo I've tried. Both very reliable. Mag cost is sixes. Mec Gar makes great mags for both at the same price, and parkerized GI mags for beretta, while cheap, can cause problems.

i really like how the ejection port on the berettas are, you have a MUCH larger ejection port considering that whole top cut off the slide is basically the ejection port.. a design detail no doubt carried over by its P38 grandfather

I have always preferred the P226 that is easily my favorite 9MM metal frame pistol and shoot it better than the others.

I don't own any Berettas but certainly see myself owning one some day and maybe sooner than later. The Wilson version sure is a beauty!

I would say if you have larger hands then the Beretta Brigadier is probably the better choice. I have small hands and the SIG P226, P228, and P229 fit me perfectly. The only Beretta 92 model that works for me is the Vertec.

I prefer Sig's DA over Beretta, but new build to new build, I'd go with the Beretta. I just haven't been impressed with Sig's newer product. YMMV

Me either, other than the 238/938 I'll take my Sigs made in Germany please.

Just make sure to sell enough to cover the cost of a divorce lawyer as well.

I have large hands too and I bought a Wilson/Beretta 92 Brigadier Tactical. Its a great gun and I'd happily buy another Beretta. The Brig Tac is a G configuration, meaning that it has a decocker only. Beretta is rereleasing a run of the mill 92 SD decocker only gun pretty soon, if they haven't already.

That being said, I really like the Sig line of pistols, and plan to pick up a P227 in 45 acp, when they come out with a variant I really like, like a stainless elite.

I think you'd be happy with either

I'd personally give the SIG a slight edge in accuracy, but both are phenomenally reliable pistols. I prefer shooting SIGs, but I love my Berettas, too ...

Still a lot of great used or CPO (certified pre-owned, factory refurbished) German and West German P-226s out there at decent prices.

Big hands here. The trigger on the 226 feels better than the 92 because on the 226, the trigger doesn't feel like it has to go as far back to fire compared to the 92; there's less finger scrunch on the 226. YRMV.

I hope you appreciate the technical term "trigger finger scrunch", but if you've got a long trigger finger, I think you'll understand what that means.

I'm sure you know this, but just so there isn't any confusion, the Beretta 92 Brigadier Inox still has an aluminum frame, not steel. Whereas Sig does make some all-steel versions of their classic P series line, including the 226.

If you're looking for proven, reliable, duty-sized, all-metal 9mm pistols, you've basically narrowed it down to 2 of the very best choices in the world. So you won't regret either purchase. I own a Sig (220 Carry Elite Dark) and 2 Berettas (92FS and Wilson Combat 92G Brigadier Tactical). I really like them all, but if I had to narrow down my entire handgun collection to 1 single gun , I'd choose a Beretta 92FS. The Beretta is probably the better gun for ambidextrous needs, as well. Sigs have an extremely tall slide and high bore axis (at least for my taste), so if you haven't shot one, I suggest you try it to see if that is a deal breaker. I also prefer the field stripping and detail stripping procedures of the Beretta.

I have a bunch of rounds through both and I will pick the 226 every time just because, in my hands, there isn't much comparison.

I have big hands and prefeer holding a gun that feels like its a real gun and not mini or a small gun that goes halfway down my palm. And i love my p226. But i have no comparison for that specific beretta.
