Anyone have an opinion, good or bad, of the Taurus 92 or Taurus 58? Worthwhile purchases or should I just save up more for Berettas?
Never liked the triggers on any Taurus revolvers or striker fired pistols that I've handled, but I dry fired a blued model 58 at the pawn shop recently and really liked the trigger, and I especially like the frame mounted safeties, and the fact that the triggers were still all metal (I had to replace the polymer trigger on my 92fs - ugh!) but I've heard bad things about Taurus' metallurgy, durability and customer service. Any advice would be most appreciated!

I have a taurus 99 and a 101 and would love to get a 58 when the right one comes along. The 99 has had countless numbers of rounds through it and has taken a number of game animals. I have yet to have an opportunity to take game with the 101 but I know when the opportunity presents itself the gun will work. I sold my Beretta 96, just did not do it for me.
There are lots of folks just eager to bad mouth any firearm out there. Taurus has made some mistakes (all manufacturers have) but overall their gun line is solid.
Heck if you find a good deal on a 58 and choose to pass it up let me know. :)

I missed out on a new 58. Saw it at the pawn shop, dry fired it, liked it but wanted to browse some other stores first before making up my mind. Went home to sleep on it, went back the next day and it was gone, baby, sold to some smarter consumer for about $300. Oh well. I'm sure there are more out there.

I love my Taurus PT 92 I find it to be much more comfortable and accurate than the Beretta 92s I have fired. I have fired many Beretta 92s and have been certified as a military armorer on the Beretta, but I like the Taurus PT 92 much better.

I have a Taurus 92 older version pre decock and a Beretta 92f both of wich I've owned for around 20 years. The Taurus is a good gun, maybe not quite as good as the Beretta in trigger and finish but a good shooter and of equal reliability.

The Taurus gets shot and carried a lot and is still running 100%. Can't tell you anything about customer service since I haven't had to use it for either pistol.

Either one is a good purchase, the Beretta will likely appreciate more in the long run and retain more value in the short run.

My PT92 has been flawless, hasn't failed one time for any reason. It is the gun that I keep on the night stand because it is my only gun that has proven itself to be 100% reliable. I can't speak of the Beretta, never owned one, but I never will either because my Taurus is fantastic.

I've got a PT 99AF which is the 92 with adjustable rear sight. It's always been 100% reliable and gets a lot of range time because it's a pleasure to shoot.
Fits great in my (large) hands. Excellent workmanship.
I find it a little bulky for summer concealed carry, but fine the other 3 seasons.

I have wanted one for quite some time.. there are 3 and one stainless 99 at my local shop for between 300 and 345 if I recall correctly.. I want... I want...

Had an original Tauri 380 -- sights were too small, trigger was crap -- sold it & haven't looked back

In my opinion...........Get the Taurus PT92 and you will never look back. For ergonomic reasons the Taurus wins hands down with out a doubt. You can carry cocked & locked in single action or decocked & safety on in double action if you prefer.

I'm sorry Beretta fans, but I just think Taurus has constantly been the 1st to innovate the 92 leaving Beretta to follow. Function, Durability, and Accuracy are completely the same with both pistols. If the Beretta ergonomics suit you better, than get the Beretta. If the Taurus ergonomics suit you better than get the Taurus. That's all you can do, plain & simple with your decision.

I also had an early PT99. Had it for about 20 years or so. Really sweet gun. Never a problem. Recommended.

I prefer the Taurus 92.

The reason: COCKED AND LOCKED, BABY!!

In fact, my Beretta 92FS was converted to a BHP.

I have a PT99AF (92 w/ adj sights) since 1988. there's about 20K rds through it and the only problem was a rear sight leaf that broke after about 14 years (I had carried it as a duty gun so it did get knocked around a bit). Turnaround time was about 2 weeks from Taurus.

I've the Taurus PT92 and the Beretta 92. The Beretta looks better, but I shoot the Taurus better because it'll do cocked and locked where the Beretta won't.

My PT92 was my range favorite until I got my Armscor (RIA) 1911-A2 wide body 9mm (Para P18 clone), the PT92 never gave me a lick of trouble shooting the cheapest ammo I could find or my reloads.

I'd rate it the best gun Taurus makes, and about as good as any mass market gun out there.

I bought my son a Taurus PT-92 for his first centerfire autoloader. I too liked the fact that it had a decocker for DA, but still be carried cocked and locked for SA capability; while using the same safety for both operations. Its had many rounds through it with no malfunctions to report.

I have, um, a number of PT92s and think very highly of them. I specifically chose the Taurus over the Beretta due to the better safety on the Taurus.

I'm going to throw another vote for the PT-92. When we first invaded Iraq I found that a number of troops were shipping to their units without ever having qualified with their individual weapons. A number of us retired NCO's used our personal weapons to make certain every soldier fired an M-9 or clone. The Taurus PT 92 lasted and lasted, and then shot some more. It is a terrific weapon.

i've liked the idea of a black 58 ever since I first saw one. The thought of bbeing able to spit 20 rounds of .380 intrigues me.

I don't have either of these models, but my experience with another Taurus (24/7-Pro Compact, 9mm) has been excellent. It's accurate and well-made. I believe that the quality problems that characterized Taurus products 10 or 15 years ago are truly a thing of the past.

Can someone baby me through this? What do you guys mean when you refer to cocked and locked, decocker, sa, da on the Taurus?

I have a PT 92 AF manufactured in 2001. I love teh decocker. Gun is solid, and has been nearly hiccup free since I bought it (used) in '02. Take that FWIW.
